Hi everyone, i am looking to convert a truggy to electric.  I would love to get a losi 8ight t 2.0 and convert but they are way expensive.  I saw the OFNA nex 8 nitro online for $400.  I hear OFNA's are really tough. Does anyone have any experience with them?  How do they compare to the losi 8ight t 2.0 platform??  thanks.

I got a Jammin X1 CRT I converted to BL can't say anything about the losi as I've never owned one but it took a full on collision goin I'd estimate 40-45 into a concrete slab(was trying to hold a camera in 1 hand while controlling it with the other, last time I tried that), and only broke $7(shipped) in parts where I at 1st thought I totaled it from the crash sound it made.
The conversion kit costs like $50 if I remember it right, and I made 2 battery trays out of $10 stampede chassis's.

The Ofna's are pretty tough, I would even say they are in between racing and bashing. They have the performance of a race machine,
but the affordability of a backyard basher. You have to hit something really hard to break one.

thanks so much for the input.  You guys confirmed what i had heard about ofna's and being pretty tough cars.  I am thinking about getting the ofna nexx 8t and converting it.  You know, i don't know if its just me but it seems that there aren't very many electric truggy options out there.  It seems like you have to buy a nitro and convert unless you want to buy a redcat monsoon or something.  Companies like losi and associated offer electric buggies but no electric truggies.. UGH!

there's only a handful of electric truggies like the thunder tiger one(which they sell as a MT)
so yea if you want one from a manufacturer differnt from the few out you gotta convert. Most truggies have kits made to convert em so its not a huge issue.

Just be on alert that 1/8 E-truggies are harder on electronics than 1/8 E-buggies. That's the only flaw I see on getting one going.
We used to have several that ran E-truggies here, they ziptied thier esc's, instead of using Servo tape. Most ran
that Mamba Monster esc and mamba motors, which can tolerate being ran in a BIG truggy.

i have seen that the mamba monster motors and esc's are pretty popular as well as the Tekin motors with the rx8 escs.  those seem to be the two most common used.  do you know why the truggies tend to e harder on electronics?  does it have anything to do with larger tires? are truggies much heavier than buggies?

bit heavier than buggies, but the larger tires are probably the biggest factor as its more mass rotating

Truggies are heavier than buggies which maes them "harder" on electronics. But really you shouldn't have any issues running them brushless if you get electronics that are rated high enough. Castle Mamba Monster, and Tekin RX8 systems are popular and work well if they are geared reasonably. I have used both and haven't had too much trouble when geared properly. The Hobbywing 150 amp systems are getting more popular and seem to be of good quality as well. I haven't tried them yet but I plan on getting a couple before too long to try.

do you usually have to change the gearing when you convert a truggy?  i was originally thinking of getting a losi 8ight t 2.0 RTR and converting it.

Depends on what gearing you have to start with. Consider that most nitro engines run at about 30,000-35,000 rpms and high end engines may pull 40,00-42,000 rpm. Now a 2200 brushles motor on 6s is capable of 50,000-55,000 rpms. So stock gearing could easily be adjusted when switching to brushless.

that makes sense.  So is it just a matter of buying a different pinion and spur gear?  The car i drive now is a baja 5b ss and i was able to change the bottom end power and top speed by changing those two out.  i know that the 4wd truggies and buggies have 3 diffs, rear, front and center (i think thats correct), so do you have to buy gearing for all three?

No the rear, center and front diffs remain the same. Just the spur and pinion change. Depending on which truggy you run you may not even have the option to change the spur and you will only change the pinion.
