ORIGINAL: Sport_Pilot hile helpful those are parts templates.  Not sure how some of it goes together or what material they are.  Wondering if someone has the plans that came with the kit.

I finally figured out how, by a combination of scanning and stitching together my copy of the instructions. Here you go, Sport_Pilot, attached are the Goldberg Ranger 30 Instructions, enjoy!

That PeeWee .020 was my first gas engine too. Christmas of 1961. It came in a plastic bubble for $3.95 .(98?)mine was on a Berkley Payload plane kit. I soon found out it started much easier on Cox fuel than the others. I ran the heck out of that engine. One of the coolest parts of that era was all the small Goldberg kits that flew so well.

Yes, Carl Goldberg kits were always top notch, I really liked them. I could get Sterling kits to work, but sometimes one had to substitute wood for a bad die crushed or weak former, etc. Occasionally they'd replace model aircraft plywood with cheaper lumber grade Luan plywood.

I did a search on the Berkeley Payloader plans, but had no luck.

Outerzone.com gives nothing under that search string. I also tried loader and didn't get it. I found nothing in the hippocketaeronautics.com plans site. A Google search using Berkeley PAA Loader netted me the Philippine American Alliance.
So, I'll need more to go on, because so far I've netted nothing.

George
Try PAA or Berkeley for your search at Outerzone.

This is the only thing close I could find on a Berkeley payloader:

http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=1841

Looks like 1/2A though.

EDIT:

What about this?? (see attached)

Gene and MJD, regarding searches, yes, I did that. On the linked plan ID=1841, the Berkeley Payee, yes, I looked at that. It didn't have the name as stated, but as a fun fly Texaco styled model, it would make a fun lazy Sunday flyer. A Thunder Tiger GP-07 or my low compression 5.5:1 Fuji 099S-II ABC baffle piston engine would be good candidates for power. It is also an easy build, given the flat sides and significantly constant chorded wing and stab.

Gene, are you the one with a website where some Frog, Comet, Goldberg, Top Flite rubber powered and small IC engine models were put onto CAD, and made available for others to download?

George,
Not sure which web site you’re talking about. I am the one at Dave Fritzke's site. Haven't done much lately in terms of cad since Outerzone became so popular. And what little I have done resides at Outerzone.

Found it!

I should have looked in my old kit collection rather than the internet. The issue of the .020 Berkeley Payloader in question had me scratching my head for some reason.. this would explain it.

Hi Guys,
Boy does this bring back memories. I built at least a dozen of them, all free flight back when I was in Jr. High. The Ranger 30 was cheap and flew really great. I powered mine with Pee Wee .020's and the last one's with TD .010's. I actually got several fly-away's hitting thermals at the Sepulveda Basin, in the late 50's and early 60's. Is this a great hobby or what...and thanks for the flash back.
Soft landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

Thanks Gene. Your work has been very useful. I was able to take your tile print Minnie Mambo and make patterns to restore it. I downloaded that before Outerzone became popular. I couldn't find my carbon paper (may have been tossed somewhere along the way). By pasting key sections, I could temporarily cement with a glue stick and create the replacement parts without messing with my kit plans.

What I like about electronic drawings such as a tiled PDF file is that I no longer need carbon paper. Being electronic, I can make as many copies as I want, nor ever loose the drawing do to "hanger rash" (knives). I simply cut out what I want and then glue is to balsa ECT using 3M77 spray adhesive and I don't wait for it to dry. Cut out the part ASAP to minimize 3M77 setup. After cutting out the part, any residue left on the part can be removed with acetone.

Krylon 7020 repositionable is better than #M, not as strong.

Although they seem to have changed the formula recently and it is much stronger.

Gene, I'll have to agree with you there. I've learned how to use pdfposter, a program that comes with Ubuntu Linux. It is command line oriented, but once I figured out how to use it, set the print window (I use 10.5x8), scale, it works like a charm. I've also used a corollary Linux GUI program, PosteRazor, that does the same with graphic files (JPG, TIF, etc.)

I haven't tried 3M77 spray, relying on a standard paper glue stick. But I agree, it spares my original plans.
