Hey guys so ive recently gotten into flying again with my parkzone extra 300 and im really enjoying everything about it. Ive flown it everday for several weeks now and its one of those planes where it falls in between a 3D plane and a sports/acrobatics plane. My grandpa is a huge pattern flyer and he recently came to visit and helped me understand the concept of it and even gave me some simple paterns i can begin to fly with my Extra. What i would like to know is if there are any good pattern planes out there that are within 200-350$ that can get me started in patern flying. My extra 300 is a 36" and i dont want to get much larger than a 50" pattern plane...my Grandpa mentioned the Osiris as a great plane and ive done some research but before i lay to much down i want to hear from you guys...whats a good plane for a new pattern pilot? balsa or composite is fine.

The Osiris is very hard to beat, I flew the 62" Osiris in the 2011 season, there's a 48" version of it which is also quite good. There's also the Extreme Flight Vanquish in the 47" size, I fly the 2M Vanquish and love it.

I've flown both the small Vanquish II (mine) and a friend's 62" Osiris and I'd recommend the Osiris if it's within your budget. Both are good but the Osiris seems a little smoother in flight to me.

Take a look at the Monolog 110 from F3a Unlimited. It flys as good as the 2m one and the Osisris.

It depends on which field you are planning to fly at. The Bowl is too small for the 62” Osiris to do pattern. You’ll need to look at all your options before you purchase any plane. I am available to give assistance. We need to do a face to face and get all the facts. I live here in Chandler.

thats also one of my problems is as of now im using a field thats going to be made into a neighborhood in the next 2-3 years. Its on cooper and a little south of ocotillo its the palm tree farm they cut down. Its not a great place to fly but it works for the plane i have now. Do you know of any good airfields in chandler?

Great that you posted here for some advise. Like Gary posted above take some time looking at your options and where you will fly. This will save you some time and $$ down the road. Several of us fly pattern in the east valley and can help guide you. By stopping by one of the fields (AMA or EVA) on any given Sunday you can see what works and will fit your budget. Just let us know when your ready.

The location that you’re presently flying at is hazardous to your plane. Too many tree stumps and obstacles and also too small. The Chandler Bowl would be a better choice for now. It’s a purpose made field with a runway. The city takes care of the runway and the outer field of grass. It’s large enough for sport flying of up to 47’’and 57‘’ sport planes, but not large enough to do any pattern. It’s located behind Lows Hardware on Chandler Blvd and the 101. The guys that fly there are very friendly and helpful. It’s not an AMA sanction field .

I own a 62" Osiris. I have also flown at the Chandler Bowl. I would not dream of flying it there. The smaller would be a maybe for me. The 101 is way too close for comfort. You have a bunch of good flying sites in the Valley and my suggestion would be to find one you like, join the club and start having fun.

Plans are being made to organized and jump start AMA /F3A pattern in AZ for 2013. In the works are additional contests in the Phoenix area and a spring pattern primer.
