Ok, hi all. I have flown planes for years back in the day. I remeber when My father had to send in out Kraft radios to have them gold stickered. In the 90's we kinda stopped flying when i found out about girls. Well, now im married and have 3 kids, i bought us and airhogs glider to throw around the yard and it sparked the fire again. So, I went to my parents and blew some dust off the transmitters and cycled some batteries. The only TX that was good was for a Giant Stinger with a Zenoah G62, well, it still flies like it always did! I was suprised that once you can fly you dont forget. I have several other planes to pull from the archives, but batteries have been neglected for so long im afraid they have been expired. NOW the reason for my post:::: I have several hitec RX's from focus 4 TX's, some JR Some Futaba, all different channels for the most part. I know there is 2.4 stuff now, but i have no idea what the hell that even means! What it comes down to is i want to use all my recievers and, if its possible, get 1 New TX that mabybe will work with all the models, brands of recievers or channels??? I tried to search but i just dont understand what is compatible anymore, things have changed A LOT! So, if you guys could direct me on what my options are, it would be very greatly appreciated! I dont want to buy batteries for a ton of TX's. But one TX with a high mah pack that will store several planes or atleast 5 models. Thanks in advance!

I did that with my Polk's Hobby transmitter. I can select any receiver made for FM 72MHz, any channel, as long as the receiver isn't PCM. (Or AM) I had the Tracker II and loved it, when they brought out the Tracker III with the rx select feature, I bought two of them. Still use them.

Some places require 2.4 GHz radios, but I don't fly there.

Good luck
Dave Olson

First of all, 2.4 means no more Frequency Pin and little or no interference. You do have to deal eith the fact that all 2.4 Rx's are proprietary. The Rx has to be the same mfg as the Tx. There are some Chinese orange Rx's that are Futaba or Spektrum compatible. JR DSM2/DSMX is Spektrum compatible. JR DMSS is not.

If you buy a Modular Tx, you can use Modules compatable with other mfg,
's Rx's. Hitec Aurora 9 is an example. You can hack some Tx's to support other mfg's Rx's. I have a JR XP9303 which is modular. With a Spektrum module, it is only DMS2 compatible, but I have had no issues.

You could look at sone Hobby King offerings. FRSKY, etc..

Where can i get a tracker 3, that seems to be what i need. Can i still get a new one? Thanks for the reply. "Some feilds require 2.4" that would really stink! I know the feild i fly at has only a handful of guys on 72mhz, but i always flew on it and never had a problem. Now there should be less of a problem that no one uses it, right?

72 mhz stuff is so cheap, get some receivers to help out the situation now, and maybe a good used TX like a 9C futaba. Then save for the 2.4 you want. I still fly 72 and even have some legal Krafts! but in the market for 2.4.

i have a ton of recievers. I just want a transmitter that will work with all of them. I do not want to go 2.4, I have so much stuff from my dad you wouldnt even believe me if i made a list! Will a 9c work with hitec recievers, i dont know how that works. we always had a tx for each plane.

Futaba stuff will not work Jr stuff and the other way but some Hitec receivers will switch or can be switched between Futaba and JR. I think some of the later Hitec transmitters can switch shift and maybe some Airtronics. I too have tons of stuff too; I have 7 legal Kraft radios ready to go. Day to day is the 9C and the only reason I am in the market for 2.4 is I do some travel to scale contests, and my 9C is about 10 years old now and I if it packs it in someday I dont want it to be something too good. I too will fly 72 until FCC police come stop me. Like I said 72 stuff is so cheap you can get a both Futaba 9Z and a JR 10X, arguably better TXs than they make today for less than a midrange 2.4 set and have the best, period.

If you're going to stay on 72 MHz (I still am) the Polk Tracker III is probably the best deal around. I think Polk sells them for about $99 dollars now. You sometimes can find them cheaper on e-Bay, but most people like me are loath to give them up. They will work with any 72 MHz FM receiver. The shift can be programmed into the model memory. It has a 99 model memory and the synthesized frequency is internal to the radio; no switches to switch. It also has a frequency scanner built in, and scans the band before it turns on, so it won't turn on if the channel is in use. It has a full 8 channels and is relatively easy to program. I have a couple of 2.4 GHz TXs. one I use for ground stuff and one I'm planning on using for planes. My biggest beef about 2.4 GHz rigs is the expensive receivers and limited model memory. I have over 20 airplanes. The biggest advantage to the 2.4 GHz band, besides no frequency pins, is the short antennas both on the TX and RX. They're great for EDF models.

The Futaba 9C is still an excellent Tx and it work just fine with an Hitec module, it is negative shift only so will work only with Futaba/Hitec receivers or autoshift. Only the Hitec Eclipse-7 and Airtronics RD8000 can chose negative/positive shift in the Tx beside the Polk Tracker III and all are now discontinued and available only as used. But the 9C being modular can be adapted cheaply to 2.4 Ghz when you chose to do so as there is many third party products in that format.

That Polk Transmitter is a good one but with the low use of the 72mhz that frequency scanner is not much use anymore.
If you are afraid of getting shot down go to 2.4. You don' need a scanner there.
Polk is selling their transmitters cheap because not many want them anymore. Parts may become hard to get for them.
Futaba has been around for more than 40 years. I expect they will be around for many more years.

I think i have only 2 JR recievers. I have mostly hitec focus 4 and 6 tx;'x and they all have rcd 3500 rx's. I bet i have 12 of these. We used to fly all the time on 72 and i cant say i ever had one problem. I would remeber guys crashing and saying they got hit or something, but, what i saw was a crash i believe. One other guy had a plane fly away and when we found it the battery wire had come out of the rx. im pretty excited about this new tx, this technology, in the 90s, if it was around, we could never afford one. Its nice that just about anyone on any income can get into it. Even arf kits, they were so expensive when they came out it was unreal.

I just bought a vista 2-meter glider for $50!! Its built so nice. The only thing was the incidence was so far off, I dont even think it would have flown the way it came! but still its nice! I got a cheapo detrum 400 speed brushless motor and speed controller, wow is that awesome! I chopped the nose offf the vista and stuck it on the front with a folding prop. I fly this with my 4 year old across the street from my house in a big feild. I have it on 72mhz witha old beatup focus 4, i take that plane so high if you blink you wont find it again, you cant tell if it has a tail or not! I kept it in the air for 41 minutes on one 1500 yks mah battery i bought on ebey 2 for $12 shipped! The technology is crazy now, for so damn cheap!!

One thing that really changed is everything is electric! That i cant understand. To me, there is nothing better than a g62 or a surpass 1.20 with no muffler on knife edging by. i guess its just cleaner.

I got a couple of planes ready to today a fourstar 40 i built when i was 16, im now 36, an extra 300 1.60 glow twin fourstroke, i ran them, but i need to get some new rx batteries and my new tx.

I thank you all for the tips!

I think the futaba is the way to go. I had a hard time finding info on the tracker, makes me wonder if they would support it or push a new product. People seem to still want to buy the 9c.
Thanks again, im looking forward to getting it!

Hobby King now carries some 2.4 receivers that are compatible with Hitec transmitters.  I am going to order one and will report here how it works in a few weeks,   Think it has to come from their international warehouse.

if this is the one you want, no need to go to Hobby Kong

To paraphrase a new Gieco commercial. How happy are Futaba/Spek and Hitec users with FrSky receivers? Happier than an Antelope with night vision goggles

Would that be as happy as Gallagher at a farmer's market?
