I am making a new field box. The fuel can that will fit in it is an old Dave Brown metal can. The problem is, that the can was unused for 2-3 years with the cap on but the inlet and outlet tubes were open. Tonight I pumped some fuel from the jug I am using now and mixed it around and dumped it out. It had some water in it. I put more in it and let it set and then when I dumped it out, more water. The jug I took it out of is new. Is there anyway to get the moisture out or do I need to buy a new can?

Also If the can is in the compartment with the battery for my field box and connections for my field charger and panel, what are the chances of the fuel vapors igniting? The can is sealed tight and I will have vent holes cut in the sides of the compartment.

You should be fine if you slush some fuel around let it sit slosh and dump it out. Methanol absorbs water. Maybe let the can sit out in the sun. On the panel just make sure everthing is hard wired and your not conecting/diconecting right by the can o fuel.

I reckon you should just buy a new can.

I would!

How did you determine that the fuel you dumped out of the can had water in it? Just curious.

I had disconnected the fuel line from the pump and some siphoned back on the floor. It had no smell and it wouldn't burn. The fuel in the bottom of the jug looked like it was a different color. I pumped out about 1 cup of fuel and it didn't smell or burn either.

What I would do is wash it out good with soap and water. Once rinsed, put the can in the oven at 200 degrees for one hour. Nice and dry!
