Hi,

I am a newbie to this hobby. I just tinkered with helicopters and found tanks facinating and would like to join in. I do have some basic tinkering skills (solder, experiments, patience, etc).

I am looking for a pair of 1:16 tanks (with IR battle system) to buy (or to build if not available). I researched thru the forums and decided that Heng Long tanks would fit the my type of play and the pocket book. Can some one point me to a dealer (or online sellers) which have new version of the HL tanks with RX18 and IR battle system on board? Most of the sites I get to don't have too many IR tanks or vague on description of the version they have (such as RX18 board ).

I would like to have:
1. RX18 for mod options
2. IR battle system
3. Sound and Smoke
4. Options for gun flashes, recoil, headlights, tail lights
5. Is  it possible to have both IR battle syst and bb gun at the same time?

So far I found RC dynasty and matomart. I haven't find one in the USA yet except for rctankwars (but I don't know if the the shop is still open for obvious reason).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am in Virginia.
Jeanluc

I would ask what tank do you want? Even non-standard tanks can be converted to IR without too much problems.

All I sell is IR equipment to modifiy Heng Longs to Tamiya compatible battle tanks.

A few videos showing the sound quaility and the ease of hook up is also there.

I forgot to add:

I would like to play with my son: inside the house, the yard, and the deck. I dont see myself going to do batlles with others (but that could change if they are my neighbors... I am in the DC suburbs). With respect to tank asthetics, I like the Tiger, Panzer, Pershing, Bulldog, panther, and the KV tanks.

Really, I would like to and a nice batlle system with my 6 year old (and my 10 year old daughter) with lights sound and easy markers to credit hits (BBs are not kid friendly, but I will later get one for me to play with). Best bang for the bucks I guess. I think my tank squandron would end up 4-5 tanks strong when I am done.

Thanks for the replies and keep the coming.
JL

Welcome,

One thing you stated in your first post was that you have patience. You are going to have to get rid of that, as none of us here have that capability . I am also glad you stated you will most likely have 4 to 5 tanks, most people (100%) of the time buy one and then the tank addiction takes over. Pretty much you've come to the right place. A lot of knowledgeable people on here will help you out. And boy o boy can you customize the heck out of these things. Everything from electronics to accessories. Hope you have a good stay.

Cheers,
Wade

Sounds like you want to test the waters before jumping in head first. The IR battletanks are like toy trains and large breasts...they are made for the kids, but Dads always like to play with them too.

 Large breast (guns), LOL.
I like large butts (gears) too but more important, with intellectual brain (electronics) as well.

seems like this forum will be fun.

Any recently made HL should have that board. Ask the seller/vendor. If he sayes he doesn't know, buy elsewhere. Bob

As long as it is smoke and sound, and it is a new sale, it will have an RX18 in it.

LOL at Bob's comment.

I have not pulled  a trigger on buying yet. A few more questions on HL IR tanks:

1.Are the Jagdpanther and Grey Stug Ausf F/8 III turrets INCAPABLE of swivel? Its hard to tell from the pictures but they look like they are Static only and only allow the gun barrels to move up/down

2. Which all HL tanks can spin in one spot (tracks move in diferent directions to make tank spin)?

3. I only see King Tiger, Panther, and KV-1 come in IR version. Is thius right? Alos, at Matomart.com, the KV-1 IR is out of stock. Where can I find reputable seller of HL tanks (with stocks) preferable with metal upgrades.

I will have to pull the trigger on getting a pair of tanks this week for xmas. I am in Virginia.

Thanks in advance.

The Jagdpanther and Stug don't have a turret, they can spin on the tracks but a motor ort gear upgrade accomplishes this very nicely

basicly all HL tanks can spin some are better than others though, (sometimes tank guys don't want this feature in a super spin which is a full speed event with the tracks going both ways)
Tiger is BB only, Panther G, KV-1 come IR as does the King Tiger.  Note changing over to an Infra red version is not that hard, especially with some of the add on parts available now. Most reputable dealers can actually do the conversion for you.

I stock tanks although I limit what I carry to the faster movers and I really have not purchased from a lot of retailers so find what you want, find a retailer and ask specific questions of them. Sometimes and I suggest this you call or e-mail the retailer and ask about their offer.
Do they test before shipping,  warranty after purchase care. This is where I would suggest you make the decision after the homework.
