Does your runtime increase since you are using less throttle on the track than you do when bashing? When on the track, it seems like you use bursts of throttle, whereas in bashing you are constantly on the throttle. Does this, in turn, make your batteries give you more runtime?

I would say racing would be ten fold harder on fuel and a vehicles components, sure anyone can jump half the local football field and drive away but the consistent abuse from racing should be much harder on fuel consumption/burnt electrons. My vote goes to racing. It should be noted that I have never raced so this is completely hypothetical.-scott

location location location!

IMO 1 or 2 hours of bashing, jumping, crashing on dirt and rocks... or, tall grass or sand...
will put more stress on parts, than 1 or 2 hours on a smooth track.

hummm how long is a peice of string?
Racing is very hard on motors, Its common to see guys over heat there basher on a race track,

it all depends how they bash.

Say im bashing in my back yard I get long runtimes, even longer doing jumps at a skate park and when im on a big grass oval doing boring speed runs the batterys go down real fast, but doing speed runs on the road I get good run times

Oh okay cool thanks guys. So theres many more factors that play into this than just throttle.

heaps of factors.and it depends how u bash.

And from what ive seen my bashing style has changedover the years. I use to go flat out straight up and down, then i got into skate parks after that i was into gravel car parks, there was a short onroad period to. Now days im not really into all that (appart from gravel carparks) im more into making physical or imaginary tracks and bashing on them. Ive got 2 syles, drift & clean. ive been getting into clean racing lines more and more lately, but i sware ive nearly got drifting a 2wd slash down pat.

I found that my skills were improving and ive allways been one to challange myself to the limit. so now days i find track work more challanging and more fun.

The catch is.... if im with a mate im still happy to go flat out up and down the road

All depends on how you drive... but racing is hardest on electronics as your constantly acclerating and braking

phmaximus - Yeah I used to just run up and down, but now I make imaginary tracks in my backyard until I get the chance to go to the track. I just don't find running up and down appealing really...neither do I like the imaginary tracks...I need a real one!!!

Haddi Taha - Ah okay thanks. Yep I can see how racing is hard on the electronics...I hardly use the brakes when bashing.

When looking at the battery life, Racing uses more juice and drains the batteries faster. I typically get around 30 mins of run time when bashing on a 5200 2S lipo. When racing that time drops to 21-23 mins depending on the track. I believe the difference is in the braking. It still takes juice to slow the motor down. When I race on large open tracks the time difference isn’t as much.

I also believe racing is harder on motors and ESC’s. When bashing you’re typically wide open 90% of the time. Racing is throttle, Brake, throttle, brake etc and really heats things up.

As for abuse on the rest of the car… There’s no question that bashing is harder on parts. I’ve run “race” cars and trucks for entire seasons without breaking anything then break them the first time out bashing. Race tracks may look rough on vehicles but they’re really not.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I suspected that race tracks weren't as hard on the cars parts as bashing was...never knew that it was harder on electronics though! I've also heard racing is a lot harder on tires too.

I guess it depends who you ask....

Where I am from the track eats the cars alive compared to what most people do when bashing........... My track has high speeds, big jumps and a surface as hard as concrete........

We get guys come out to the track with their bash gear and it usually only takes a lap or two and their cars are broken....... Pretty much every single one them couldn't beleive how fast their car broke.... The Last LST that came out went home in 2 pieces, dam truck split in half....

Now of course some tracks are lame and setup for 1/10th short course and other crap, and of course wont hurt your machine, however tracks like mine are setup for Supercross style 1/8th and cars take an absolute pounding and are broken and damaged quite often..........

My vote is a track kills the cars more, and because of that the race machines need to built to be more durable and reliable....

Wow....thats some track! To be honest, I would actually hate a track like that...
