Anyone got experience of this unit in jets? Considering it as a dual regulated power supply.

TIA

Rob.

Ive used Smartfly products in several big planes and I have never had a problem. For example, I have a 47% Decathlon with 14 x Futaba 9157 servos (high torque) equipped with an EQ10 and a Turbo Regulator and it works flawlessly. I just finished assembling my first jet with a Smartfly system but I still don't maiden it so can't really tell you...... but I don't see why you should have a problem. In my club there are a couple of jets with this regulator and they all fly with no problems.

I have Smartfly turbo reg and EQ 10 setups in my very large Corsair and at least 5 turbine-powered jets. I have used these units for more than 6 years. So far, I have never had any issue with either unit. IMO, the turbo reg and EQ 10 are solid performers. I am happy with them.

I have been using one of these for the past year and have had no problems at all. I really like having the dual battery inputs / outputs and battery share. Great peace-of-mind!!

Thanks Gents, appreciate your comments, sounds like they are reliable units.

Anyone know if there is a European dealer?

Rob.

Found this header on the Smartfly site:

"PowerSystems
The JR and Spektrum PowerSafe receivers are not recommended for use with
any of our systems.  These were never designed to be used in any way other
than by themselves. These include the JR922, JR1222 and AR9100"

I was intending using a turbo regulator with a Spktrum power safe Rx but it sounds like that's not possible?

Rob.

Rob,

That warning is on the powersystems page and not the regulator page.

I have a SportReg in my Nano and it is just a regulator. I can't see how it would affect any RX and I'm sure you'd be fine using a TurboReg with a Powersafe RX. Also, bear in mind that Spektrum sells regulators to use with those RX's so it is not a strange occurrence to be using a regulator with a Powersafe RX.

Exactly what siclick33 said. The Turbo Regulator works with ANY JR/Spektrum receiver. It's the PowerExpander/powersystems that do not. The PowerExpander is equivalent to a PowerBox.

I have had good experience with these units. I use on currently on a turbine EC135. They have the option of the smart switch, however since I often have long periods between flights, I opted not to go that route as in the off position, the smart switch still has a miniscule power draw off of the batteries .

Thanks again, any options for buying in Europe or is the USA the only source?

Rob.

I've been flying my Ultra Lightning for the past 2 years using a Turbo Reg set to 6.0v on a JR 1222 powersafe receiver with no problems. I have standard JR 8711 servo's, not HV's, that's why I am using the regulator.

I use Smartfly products religiously. They work great! Their regulators are top of the line! I also use their power expanders with JR (EQ10X etc). What they are saying is on the JR "powersafe" RX not the standard ones.

Dreamworks is one of the best companies in the business but the international shipping cost for small/cheaper items is prohibitively expensive. That isn't a criticism as I understand why they do it but I would buy lots more stuff from them if the shipping was cheaper.

The Smart Fly website shows innovative-rc as the UK dealer. I have never heard of them or used them but they show the Turbo Reg on their website. Despite my comment above, I did get mine from Dreamworks as part of a bigger order that I placed with them.

Robrow,
I am using the Smartfly Super Regulator with a JR921X reciever with no problems. I believe the problem JR and Spectrum RX have are with their Power Systems, not their regulators.

I've been flying with turbo regs for many years now. That is all I use in my jets. Great little unit.
