ALright so who makes King Tiger METAL Hull's? I found 'some' but no reviews and deff not on all the regular sites that pops up from searches...

The Tiger 1 is everywhere but i'm interested in the KT... Ever since i was a kid, theirs something about that tank... mmmm

It's a christmas present to myself

Here is the list:

Heng Long King Tiger (No H turret makes me SAD) premium package from Matomart Canada (Metal Threads + Metal Gear Box).
Metal Hull
Metal Suspension.

Budget is around $300-$500 for now.

Then i spend Montreal's freezing winter painting it + weathering it in my hobby room...

Thanks all, and yes i did a LOT of research so i have a pretty good idea and i just need a bit of help. I know i will probably have to get a reductiong gearbox too.
No, Tamiya doesn't interest me, i don't like the price to plastic ratio and i already have a hobby room FULL of tamiya and bandai model kits built over the past 10 years.

You can get lower and upper tamiya KT parts from the AAF tank museum PX.  Or are you talking about a complete tank?

The tamiya is a metal lower hull, don't know if that'll work if your trying to incorporate it into a HL upper and HL running gear/gearboxes.  Here's a pic from a german site, but like I said, order from the AAF.

The ONLY metal Hull I know of on  King Tiger is either Tamiya or Mattorro, Both are over $500
The Mato Tiger 1 is less than $500 but then add the things you need and you are over your budget

I think I sent you a pm with a price quote on the Waltersons Henschel and I know I can hit that budget spread with a better deal especially as you are in Quebec.
I didn't think I was out too lunch on the price was pretty fair.

Interesting. Is it a complete lower hull or does it slide in a plastic sleeve that has the exterior details?

Any idea for compability with H/L? I know theirs a 100 euro one floating around that is a quick swap, but i have yet to find it in Canada/US.

Yes we talked before and i made a purchase from someone else and got hit with a DOA tank. Sent it back and they were out of stock so i got a refund. I made he mistake of deleting your PM's and lost your info on the other forum.

Your price is much nicer than other retailer's i have seen in Canada but it has nothing to do with Walterson MSRP which i beleive is much too high for a HL tank.

If waltersons came with metal tracks and metal gearbox like the HL one, then yeah $250 is fine. But AFAIK it doesn't.

I FINALLY found the link i saw weeks ago: http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/torro-metal-lower-hull-for-king-tiger-116-scale-1680-p.asp
(Same one that yellowshaker found).

So far thats the only metal hull for the KT i saw. Now i have the tamiya on my radar but i have a feeling its not HL compatible.

Nope, what you see is what you get.  Doubt it would work as a slide in endoskeleton.  By the time you do all of the dremmeling/drilling to get it to work with the HL running gear and gear boxes you might
as well just buy a Tammy.  Like freaky pointed out, only the Tammy and Matatorro have metal lower hulls I believe.

And the Mattoro is not truly metal like Tamiya. It is an Asiatam thing with a skeleton.
Only True True Metal Hull is a Tamiya.

yes Mattoro is Torro even though the two companies may say they are not

Should have taken me up on the offer I pm'd you. I read your requirements and quoted you a Walterson Henschel Tank WITH metal tracks.  I recieved a Walterson and was a bit disapointed at first and wanted to move it fast.
I took it and started a build thread though and as I get into it this is NOT a standard HL king tiger and I am super happy I started the build thread because I have discovered this is a builders dream tank.
Why you might ask? well the carry bag is cool but worth all the extra money? No but worth a few more bucks as it is a heavy bag that is waterproof and the box is reclosable and stackable.  Plenty of room in the box for a radio as well as a tool bag and extra batteries. So slightly more but not a ton.
The mold detail on this tank is superb, right down to the correct number of nuts and bolts on the rear panel and around the exhaust. It is prewired for IR although it comes airsoft so that is a bonus
The hatches although closed are all easily opened as the plastic actually looks like it was molded thinner around the hatch edges.
The molds are clean and there are few distortions in the tank anywhere, Aluminum barrel is nice and I can mod it with a servo for the recoil.
pop over to Freakies Henschel build thread once in a while and you will see for yourself the value as I post the entire build step by step including all the costs.

Already have the threat bookmarked when you started it.

I only got a PM from you for the Tiger 1. The KT you told me would be much higher and you left it at that.

Detailing i can do... i have 10 years of model kit building under my belt, and fine detailing... well i love it (and drive myself crazy from it hehe).

It seems my only choice is a HL Porsche turret + torro 'metal' hull/suspension and the odd bits in metal (track, gearbox, etc) and then spend time detailing it.

Or torro upper + lower + HL inners (anyone know where to get all necessary HL inners?).

If anyone else has other ideas please chim in, i still got a bit of time before i need to order.

You should do fine with it, though HL electronics are not what I would use. All said, to be perfectly honest with you, just buy a new Tamiya King Tiger from the AAF museum. In the end, you will be much happier. I can tell you this from experience. Everything will fit without any trouble. Everything is available aftermarket to upgrade if you so choose, and the kit is all there, aside frm a battery and radio...The cost in the end will be less...for a better product...

Sorry but i would be murdered by my fiancee if i did that.

$630 + shipping + taxes + duty will be well over $800 once at my door. Maybe even over $1000 depending of the mood of the officer that checks it.

Since i already have half a dozen tanks from Tamiya i know of their quality, but their price for what they offer VS the competition in their R/C category will stop me dead in my tracks.

So far the H/L + the Tarro plasticmetal hull + odd bits will come out to $500 if include shipping and taxes.

Being at the high-end of the budget, i'm not too keen on that either hehe
