Looking for a decent charger for NIMH and LIPO (3s or lower) for less than $100...if possible.

I'm thinking of getting Duratrax batteries...but they say no trickle....yet the Onyx chargers have auto-trickle.  I want something that will last more than 90days as a charger...etc yet doesn't violate what the battery manufacturers are saying.  I don't need to charge more than 2 batteries at a time and may need to charge only one at a time.  Is it better (cost effective) to buy a combo charger or a NIMH/Ni-Cad Charger and a Lipo Charger seperately?

Batteries...did a lot of research and too many conflicting reviews on things like Gen Ace..and some other lower cost LiPos....are Duratrax decent?

Thank you

Bought one of these 4 years ago. Bought another just as a back up, but never have had to use it. Great charger for the money.

You will need a 12 volt power supply to go with it. Here is one that is inexpensive and has given me good service.

For a decent entry level or next step up charger look at any of the first three listed here:
www.valuehobby.com/power-systems/chargers.html

They charge and maintain NiMh, NiCd, and Lipo, Life batteries. I have two as secondary//field chargers to my main chargers and a few club members use them too with good results.

x2 on the Venom. I have had one of their chargers for over 5 years and it works great. Let's see if all that cheap crap on the market lasts that long.

I see the Venom is on sale direct from Venom for $75.00 shipped . With it on sale for that price, I would say spend the extra 20 some dollars and get the Venom

for under $100 i'd go for the icharger 106b click You might find cheaper as i only normally pick up UK shops.
For a power supply a pc psu will be cheap or a very easy modded sony aps-231

+1 on the Accucel 6 from Hobbyking. I have 5 or 6 of them, lost count. They have worked great for all my nimh, A123, Lipo and lead acid batteries. The only problem I found is that the A123 cutoff voltage for discharge is too low. I discharge on the nimh setting to get around this.

For power supplies many in our club have made them from computer power supplies. They work great. There is a thread on RCU for them. I got my instructions from Murray Hill University. Works like a charm.

I don't see it in the specs but can anyone confirm if this venom charger does or doesn't have the storage function?

The venom pro charger has a storage setting. Looks like 3.7V per cell.

Why go through all the trouble  building a  power supply from a   computer   when for  $75 get the charger and the power supply  ready to go.   Why wait several weeks for a   charger from   Hobby King when it already has a flaw.     Would I order one from  Hobby King,    NOPE !  I would go where I get a great warrantee and customer service.      Why would someone need      5 or 6 of them?    That's beyound me.

With the venom you can set your program and recall them for each of your batteries.   Plus  cycle your batteries up to four times with having to sit and watch it.

Try to save a buck and end up spending  a fiver.

They don't need to be from a computer, All thats needed is the ability to solder two small wires on a ribbon cable. Everything else is just plugged in. I don't know why people buy a number of chargers to me thats crazy.

Most chargers have this option.

This is very true, I'm onto my third lipo charger. First one was junk, Second I still use for nimh/nicad, but underpowered for my lipos, third one is awesome for everything and parallel charge my lipos in one go, but very expensive. Unless you figure out the cost per watt then it is inexpensive.

Hi Traxx that looks very simple- most tutorials on power supplies are way more complicated. What unit is that an how many amps and watts? Cheers

I'll have to dig out the list but there all playstation 3 supplies. This one is the most energy efficiant. (ebay aps-231, get one with the ribbon cable and power inlet socket, or buy the socket seperately for about 3 quid) 12V @ 23.5A the next one up is 12V @ 32A the next one down i think is 12V @ 15A.
I use two now.

and the 4mm outputs are already installed. happy days.

my nearly complete charging station.

still got some more work to do as i want the mpa board underneath. Or a bigger tool box.
