I just built the Taylorcraft 450 with Eflite Park 450 motor. the recommended prop is a 10x8. I wasn't able to find a 10x8 so I bought a 10x7. I did static test and found that the 10x7 would draw just above 20amps and would produce 1.6lb thrust. an 11x3.8 and a 10x4.7 both drew 18amps or less and would produce 2.2 to 2.25lb thrust. With this in mind, is the 10x8 really the best choice? When testing with the 10x7 at half throttle and very short bust at full throttle the motor became very hot. This is the reason the testing started. How does a static test relate to flite? Wouldn't static wide open throttle be the same as being stalled out in vertical at wide open throttle? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Status: offline 		2100ma 3s and a 20a ESC. Just got off the phone w/Eflite support. They said static test does not represent anything. and that all planes are tested for proper set up. I guess I'll try the 10x7 I have and check it in flight with Eagle tree. I still say that hanging on the prop is the same as static.

Status: offline 		l have flown my taylorcraft w/ park450, 3s 2200mah and 25A esc with a 10x7 apc prop for 5 years now flies fantastically!!!!!
loops, rolls, inverted all configurations!!!
tried a couple of other sizes over the years and no benefit found, have settled on 10x7. no heating issues whatsoever noticed.
l have no watt meter or anything - just in judging performance and power visibly.

Status: offline 		Hetr, are you using a 10x7E or SF. SF's draw a little more and may be closer to the recommended 10x8E. may not have any benefit?

Status: offline 		am using a SF = to the best of my knowledge l have used it all along.
BUT l have an opened prop pkg in my flite box with a slightly used E prop in it but don't recall ever using it!!!!
l am sure tho l have used the SF the most with the small hub. and been happy with it and never noticed anything out of place re: motor/esc heat, or even bettery heating.
am not a techie kind of guy like l said l just go with how the plane performs - and it has been a fantastic flyer - does more than l could expect. it really has been my most loved plane in 30 years!!! if only it was available in something between the eflite and the hangar9 biggie!!!

BUT
up in Ontario here it is -4 degree C or 25 deg F

and snow has begun so our season is basically done now. may still be the odd flying opportunity but the OLD fingers are liking the cold less and less it seems.

Status: offline 		I'm in the southern US. Couldn't stand the cold as long as you guys have it. I'm with you on the old cold fingers. I just received a Turnigy radio glove and heater from Hobbyking $38.00 with shipping. Haven't used it yet but it looks like a nice set up. I just looked back at the manual and they do recomend a 10x8E with the 450 motor.

Status: offline 		I have a Dualsky 3530ca-12 with a 25a ESC and turning an APC 11x5.5e. NOTE have tried with a 11x7 but just too fast.

My Taylorcraft flies like dream ( docile/smooth) @ less than 1/4 throttle but will climb forever if you open it up.
Was using HK Rhino 1750 3s currently have started using 1600 Turnigy Nano-tech 45-90c easily flies 5-12 minutes

How long are you able to fly on the 2200ma batts? I have 4, 2200's but I also have a bunch of 1300's and would like to figure out how long I could fly with them. If it can stand the weight, I may use 2, 1300's parralell for 2600ma. Come to think of it, they would be easier to get into the batt compartment. Only 2 of my 4, 2200ma batts will fit without mods to plane.

Status: offline 		my timer is set for 10 min's = an average flight usually is a mix of gentle, lazy flight and some hard-working time as well and l usually have @ 25-30% left in the battery.
if l go all out l'll be in the 20-22% range left.
l use only turnigy's now (forgot to look - but l think maybe 25c), but started with fma's.
l havent had any problems with fit with fma's and zippy, but with the turnigys they are a tad larger especially length l just took my dremel and zipped off a touch on the underside of the cowl covering the battery area they slide in just a little easier and dont catch on the cowl.
