Just a question.. my DX7s has 1.01 and works flawlessly in all respects.

I just noticed 1.03 is available with the following changes..

Software Features

Automatically corrects sub-trim and travel for models created in version 1.01 and earlier after prompting the user.

Enabled ability to configure inactivity timer

Enabled dimming control of the orange Spektrum LED for night flying

I have 20 models in my DX7s and 4 CCP helicopters that each use subtrim and some channels reversed...

Can someone explain exactly what is meant by "Automatically correcting sub trim?"

Will I have to re-trim these helicopter sub trims if I upgrade to 1.03?

I wouldn't worry about the upgrade but I like the idea of dimming the LED and changing the inactivity timer...

Any advice appreciated..

If you go to 1.03 from 1.01 and you choose Update and then Yes on the following screen when prompted you should not have to manually adjust anything. You will only be prompted to update if you have channels that are reversed. The prompt (if applicable) will be triggered when you use Model Select to change models.

Thanks.. maybe I am missing something or reading too much into it.... What does Automatically correct Sub Trim mean?

I do have channels that are reversed on all my helicopter models and also subtrim on most of those channels....

What will happen if I upgrade to 1.03?

With 1.02 we made some changes that bring the DX7s/DX8 code up to match the DX10t/DX18/DX18QQ in some functions.

When we did that, it caused problems for the sub-trim values.

Users complained about doing it manually.

We made 1.03 which does it automatically if you let it. If you had done the changes under 1.02 manually, then you could tell it to skip the updating.

Ok, that makes sense...  just one question and sorry to be pedantic...

I have 1.01 in my DX7s.. One helicopter model for example, has elevator reversed and 10U on the subtrim...

If I upgrade now to 1.03, will it affect anything?  Will I have to manually reset the subtrims...

Thanks again for your advice.

Ok, so I bit the bullet and did the 1.03 Upgrade.

I wrote down all model memories that used subtrim...

Prior to Update they are..

Memory 9  (Helicopter) ELEV REV 10U on Sub Trim

Memory 16 (Helicopter)  AIL 28L  ELEV 22U PITCH 10+

Memory 17 (Aircraft) Subtrim AIL 20L

Post Update.

Memory 9 - no change

Memory 16 - AIL now 28R, ELEV 22D PITCH 10-

Memory 17 Subtrim now AIL20R

I am away from home now and can't check how this has affected my models...    Why has it reversed all the subtrims?   I Just curious... Any advice greatly appreciated..

All other models are either 4 channel aircraft or BNF small eflite helis and none of them used subtrim..

try each model before flying - you may find a reversed throw -
I found none

Thanks, yes I will do that for sure..

I have been experimenting since upgrading and one thing I don't understand..

Assume a standard 4 channel aircraft,

Aileron Channel is reversed...  Left Stick gives Left Roll on the aircraft..   IE Left Aileron moves up, Right moves down...

But Applying LEFT Subtrim now creates a RIGHT Roll Effect.  IE, the SUB TRIM now seems to ignore the fact that the channel is reversed?

And the logic for this is???

The logic is there is no way to know for sure what side of the servo arm will be used to control the surface.Rob was it that way before the update?

Because how it interprets sub trim was reversed, to make it more like the DX18 and fix some issues in helicopters and in the trainer system.

It reversed them because it had to to keep the servo output in the same position.

Yes, I can see that if you centre the servos before installation.. I never do that on helicopters though.. I set up Reverses first to get all moving the same direction with collective.. then Swash to give correct roll and pitch response.. then I set subtrims to ensure the swash is level at 50%....

I am pretty sure it wasn't that way before the update.. the subtrim adjustment was the same as the stick movement.. IE Left or right reversed or normal, the subtrim moved in the same orientation as stick movement..

it won't make any real difference to me in a new set up, was just curious why it was changed.

Thanks Andy..

Makes sense..

I have one aircraft with two aileron servos on a Y splitter to the Aileron channel..  I have that channel reversed for correct response.

I used the subtrim to make sure both servo arms were perfectly lined up before connecting the pushrods.. This ensures equal up down movement on both ailerons..

I think \reversing the sub trim response will throw out my trim.

No Biggie, its easy to fix, was just curious..

Thanks again.

It should automatically correct for that, too.

Thanks, I will let you know when I get home and test it.. (Unfortunately that's not until late Dec, the joys of being a corporate pilot)

Ok, I know I shouldn't feed the troll.. but I'm bored...

One problem with your theory..

I spend 6 months of each year living in hotels. I take a few small Blade Helis and ultra Micro fixed wings with me..

How am I going to fly them with Futaba?

Show me a Futaba TX with 40 Hours run time?  My DX7s with Lipo goes for a month flying every single day.

Just for the record I have several Futaba, JR and Spektrum radios.. All have been equally reliable. IE pefect.. I have never lost a connection..

My radios below.. plus I now have a DX7s which is my most used radio..  I like Futaba and they are great quality, Spektrum is the same in my experience but they feel nicer to fly with.

Also, in my own testing, I found Spektrum and JR give slightly superior long range performance.

Please post details of how many Spektrum radios you have personally tested with videos that demonstrate your point. .  It will add credibility to your post.

some of my vids and tests.

There is no reason for an ignorant Troll to violate a Spektrum thread in this manner. I would not do that to a Futaba thread. No one here is putting down Futaba. Enjoy the brand you prefer and we will as well.

The humor might have been missed...

Futaba breaks sometimes also...

Just an update...

I arrived back home yesterday and was able to assess the changes in subtrim on one of my 450 helis..

Swash is
AIL +75
ELEV +75
PITCH +65

Firmware 1.01

Aileron 28L
Elev 22U (reversed channel )
Pitch +10 (reversed channel

The helicopter hovered perfectly neutral with these sub trim settings

After upgrading to Firmware 1.03, the swashplate was definately not level, it was pitching forward and to the right significantly

I levelled it again with the subtrims (and test flew it)

Final results were

AIL 40L
ELEV 40D
PITCH -5

I have 20 models in my DX7s and all others were not affected by the update , I have test flown them all.and detected no change

Only Model 16 - the 450 Heli required sub trim corrections after the firmware update..

Not sure why but all is good now and it flies the same as before
