Where do you get it?Do you have to worry about timing and that sort of thing or can you just bolt the new unit on? Thanks for any help...

Yes, no timing changes to worry about and all you have to do is replace your existing unit.

All you have to do is match the spark plug receptacle size, so often you can use ignitions from slightly larger or smaller engines.

Any place that sells engines equipped with Rcexl ignitions will have replacement.

I think I paid around $24.00 for one from Hobby King, but it has to be shipped from Hong Kong.

Yup I agree it does work better, but it is not absolutely necessary.

You can plug in the new ignition and the engine will start right up. That's what I did before playing with the timing.

Fortunately the provided sensor usually has a big enough mount holes that you can adjust the timing a few degrees and eek out a bit more power.

Yes, you can use the standard RCEXL ignition module which comes with a DLE 55 engine. If you look closely at a DLE20 ignition module you will see "#4" or "4#" on the front of the module on the lower right corner area. It is lightly stamped and does not show up well.

You may need to reset the timing on a DLE20 to 28 degrees BTDC. A couple of degrees off either way won't make a major difference. Some people have reported their DLE20 factory set at about 34 degrees. Use a degree wheel to reset your timing for 28 degrees. If you don't have one, set the hall sensor right on the engine case boss line and you will be close.

I think all DLE single cylinder engines will run very well at 28 degrees BTDC, not sure about the twins. Almost any vender who sells RCEXL ignitions will have the standard module. Priced anywhere from about $45.00 to $79.00 depending who you buy it from. I got mine from Wrongway RC. Tower has them as does ValleyView RC and many other sources.

Yes you can just change it to rcexel with the proper curve. Valley View sells the rcexel unit for $50 I think or maybe you can find a better deal? The software is a bit different in the rcexel compared to the DLE ignition unit. When installing the rcexel you have to retard the sensor as far as it will go. My friend Gordon even said he had to make the slots a hair longer. By doing this it will give you the same exact timing as the DLE unit did at full throttle. Give Tom a call at VV and he will verify that. Thankfully the XYZ 20cc he sells already comes with the rcexel ignition.

Has anybody else had the nose over problems that could not be over come with up elevator on take off ? Mine was just too hard on props, you had to use full up when first starting your roll gradually backing off to neutral at liftoff and then it had a very tail high attitude when ever taxing till I moved the gear...I am just wondering if the newer models have this cured because this was a real problem for a while...I ordered a gear from TNT but figured out my oun cure during the wait..My cure worked so well I never switched over...TNT makes a nice gear but pricy...Next time I will try cutting my own from a road sign as I have just learned works well from a tip from Grey Beard
