I have started having problems with a jet tronic dual action retract valve lately.  Each time I start the receiver, the gears go in.  It has happened 3-4 times last weekend and has damaged my skygate viper even before take off.

In order to get around this, I have to reset the valve by holding the two buttons while restarting the receiver.  Once this is done, the valve operates correctly.  But once I shut off the system, and restart, it malfunctions again. The gears go up again damaging the aircraft.  So now, I am scared to start the system without holding the aircraft up just in case the gears decide to go up.  This is not happening during all startups, its random.

What could be happening?  This valve has served me well for over 70 flights.  Sometime, even the brake valve decides to reset itself.  I am tempted to move back to manual servo driven valves now.  Atleast there is no drama in them.  What am I doing wrong???

Anurag - I had this once before with the valve running through the PowerBox (Competition / Cockpit SRS). Are you running it through your PowerBox ? Im searching my mind trying to remember the solution but what I think was happening is that the Fail Safe was kicking in as the UP position momentarily before the link was made. Try re-setting the fail safe if you are using an SRS unit. This is more likely to be the case if you had changed operation directions after initial binding.

Or it might well be as Denny has said above (Ive never read the instructions )

regards

Colin

If you are using Futaba increase the atv on that channel 5%
Then if you have "programmed" the valve, factory reset it and just use it as it comes from the packet.

I've seen this described somewhere...

Solution : reverse the gear channel on your Tx, then set-up the valve as manual say (switch Tx gear down, push the button on the valve for gear down, and same for gear up.)

Now your valve will still have a movement when you will switch on the plane, but this time it will be for gear down...

Reverse the gear channel, reverse the output lines to the gear. Reset valve and change atv to 110% each direction. No need to reprogram the valve unless you intend to use the built in "Failsafe" setting.

Hi

I have spent arround 30 flights with this problem asking a friend to hold the plane.

At the time also reported this issue in the forum. Do what Todd recommend. It will solve the problem.

It as to do with momentary lack of signal while rx is linking. I was also using a Tam gear fail safe that was not the origin of the problem as I originally thought.

Regards

Nuno

What is most intriguing is that the problem started only last week.  I have been flying this airplane for two year with no problem.  Wonder why the sudden drama?  I will follow the suggested techniques anyway.

Looks like there are some great solutions here to try.

I had a similar issue i.e. switch on and wheels would go up when switch was down intermittently. In short Jetronics confirmed there was a software update available that would help, whilst a new type valve the ones I had did not have the very latest programming and they had the ability to slightly delay the iniitiation of the valve whilst rec signal set. I dont claim to be an expert in this field but sent them away, put them back in and the problem was fixed.

It seems that, at least, old valves have an internal preferential position before they receive the signal, and react immediately to this "original" position before receiving the real Rx signal. The solution is to set-up your system in order that switch on position is the same that "original" position... Some Rx needs a second or two during the initial power on to be ready and sending correct signal to servo. But your servos and systems reacts immediately when they have voltage in !

I have seen this Jettronics feature since a long time from some very high level guys, and they all have corrected that that way : exchange the "in" and "out", and reverse the gear channel on the Tx. Nevers eard about setting Tx to 110%.
