It might be a fluke but I tried several times yesterday, with Explorer, and it didn't work. First try with Firefox and the picture posted straight away.

Also select preview first before posting, seems to get around the glitch

I tried all of these options last night in both Firefox and Explorer - no dice. This morning, it worked perfectly in Firefox.

When its working, the size of the picture doesn't matter - it will resize them as necessary.

Seems to work. (don't use the "BETA" version) Even did an "Edit" and added a second pic. Works fine on the non-beta uploader.

Test.

It is working now

You are not loosing your mind. I tried to upload 4 pictures to the thread about FOD guards last night and none of them would go up. They are all 4+ Mbytes each, but this morning when I tried again, it worked fine - the system resized them as necessary to fit into the post - manually resizing them shouldn't be necessary.

What was broken is now fixed - for now...

Wish people would learn how to post pictures a thumbnails, some great threads on here, nearly un-viewable due to the multiple large format pictures.

OK, that raises a good point - my pictures were 4 Mbytes each in size and RCU resized them to be thumbnails automatically (see:http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=11318783).

On other threads the pictures are too large and are not thumbnails, as you pointed out. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I suspect that if you resize the pictures yourself to be smaller (but not small enough), then the system posted them actual sized without resizing them...

All I know is that I don't have Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Picture Manager on my home PC, so if I post from home, the system gets pictures at their original size and seems to deal with them fine - when its working...

Bob if you upload them from your PC to RCU using "click here to upload images and files" then they will get resized and will display as expanding thumbnails exactly like your post on that thread.
This is the ideal and proper way to post pictures, as can be seen from your example, it makes very easy and clear viewing.

What some people are doing are posting links to their pictures on a third party website like photobucket, flicker etc.
This means the pictures normally take up most the screen and have to be loaded into the thread everytime you view it which makes it slow especially as the thread get bigger and contains lots of pictures.

If you have a fast broadband then the loading time may not be an issue but the page is still more confusing to view, as the text cannot be read while looking at the pic's, and most of the screen is taken up by a picture, so you dont actually read half the text and tend to just quickly scan through it, especially if lots of pictures.

The other major disadvantage of posting links to the images is they can disappear from the threads over time, due to folders getting changed etc. There are quite a few old threads on forums like that.
