I sold every last peice of Tmaxx nitro I had.... I kept my hyper 7 buggy bercause I love running that car.

I wanted to take the money from my tmaxx and get myself a new electric. I was in the store yesterday and I walked away from a brand new Losi Ten sct and a Castle SCT motor system. $540 out the door. I didn't know what I wanted and I didnt want to just buy a truck for the sake of buying

What I REALLY want is a EXO buggy.... but all the reviews I read make me shy away. Is it really that difficult to install batteries ? Would a newb to the electric world have a hard time and get frustrated with the EXO ? The hobby shop has a RTR EXO on the shelf, but I want the kit version so I can have something to build over the next few cold weeks.

So I guess thats my question...... for a first electric.... EXO buggy.... or ... Losi 4x4 SCT ?

I say the Losi only because it's easier to find parts for it. It has the potential to be raced as well. The EXO is just for looks
I have a buddy that has one and he doesnt do anything with it but rock crawl. Which i feel what it was designed for.

He rock crawls with an exo? Are you thinking of the wraith? First of all i must say I don't have one so take this as a grain of salt, but exo's are not just for looks they can be great bashers from what i've read. Oh and I also know that the losi sct is amazing on a track once dialed. But other than that I can't comment. The cool factor of the exo is what earned it a spot on my christmas list.

Yea I think for the cost difference.... the EXO might be the way to go.

Im not a everyday basher, or a racer by any means.... so I wonder if buying the RTR version would be alright ? or if I should get a kit to build over the winter and buy my own motor/esc combo.... I have a radio and steering servo already.

I have quite a bit of experience tearing down and re-building RC's. Not a pro or anything, but the thought of putting a kit together doesn't intimidate me.

kit. I think the average build time is somwhere around 12hrs, but you will know everthing about it and you will know it has been done right. ( thread lock in the right places no stripped screws etc.) plus you can put in a tenshock motor and esc with a savox servo for the price of the rtr.

Do yourself a favor, save the in between [ 1/10 scale ] go 1/8 scale, you'll be glad you did. You'll be running and bashing while the 1/10 scalers are repairing and trying to upgrade to close the performance gap between the 2. A little more up front, but what you spend extra you'll save in trying to make one of the smaller scale trucks do what the 1/8 scale will do right out of the box. Just another opinion.

There is alot of truth in what big Trol is saying. That coming from a 1/10 guy who just got his first 1/8 buggy. But the exo in many ways is built like an 1/8 scale: Aluminum chassis, 32p gears and epic cage, and an almost 6lb running weight. It shouldn't be too far off in durability from an 1/8.

there seems to be alot of talk of durability on when watching/reading reviews on youtube.

Any owners out there know if durability is a issue ? I dont have a store that stocks parts around here so I would have to have a little stock pile of spares.

Are you referring to the durabilty of the EXO?  I finished building mine last week and can say that it's a stout vehicle.  It's porky and the plastic components appear thick and should take a fair beating.  However, with that said; anything will break if you smack it hard enough.  Specifically between the Ten or the EXO the choice is kind of in the air.  Both are well-designed vehicles and either will surely satisfy you.  But, the EXO wins by far under the "looks" category.  The kit takes a little bit of time to build but as long as you have a clear workspace to lay out all the parts bags it goes alright.  Having a good set of tools onhand helps; especially a hex driver instead of using Allen wrenches.

The battery hold isn't the problem that people say it is; in fact, it's really the cage that makes retrieving the battery somewhat troublesome.  The battery is held with 2 rubber straps, enough said.  Once you have the body panels attached then getting to the battery becomes tedious.  My solution was to use a Turnigy LiPo with removeable power wires.  I just leave my pack in the car continuously.  The RTR is good but, you may want to consider a new servo down the road.  You can list the stock radio online for a few bucks and use your existing equipment.  Just consider that there is limited space for a deep servo.  I installed a Savox 1233 which apparently is a lot deeper than most standard sized servos.  I had to get creative with spacers in order to move the servo away from the center driveshaft and allow it to fit.  Even still, I had to Dremel off the corner of the servo's mounting tabs to allow the bell-crank to swivel correctly.

I've had my SC8e for over a year now, only broke the front bumper, and that's after a lot of hard bashing. Still haven't replaced it, zip ties are working just fine. I see a company called TBR is making an aftermarket set front and rear included for around 50 bucks, comes with a lifetime gurantee. I guess competition wise, the buggys and truggys have an edge on the SC and at least here, for now they're the most common classes running in organized competition. But for almost bulletproof bashing and great performance it's hard to beat an 1/8 scale SC.
