I'm thinking of this scheme. I just can't get my butt down to the basement to work on it. I am plugging away at it, just not at my usual pace.
For a while, my benches looked like Santa's gift wrapping department

I thought we might see a Veitnam camo job on this one, nothing too scale . I always thought some of thes classics looked like older jets and wanted to do one up like one just to be different, looks good though.

Here you go Scott. The camo is only a what if. I even thought of the old Cicus Circus paint scheme. I have painted or covered so many red, white and blue birds.

I think the camo is cool also, maybe a few well placed markings and the bottom white and it would look the part!

There were two versions of the three tone wrap around w/ the the bottom being a ghost grey. Heck, add some drop tanks from the GP Phantom and drop them on a high speed pass. This way I can loose all respect from the pattern community
The rudder is now done minus the 1/4" dowel for the pull-pull system. The tank floor is ready to go in after adding blind nuts for the gear. There is plenty of room for the tank compaired to my H9 Phoenix 7. I may slide the tank floor up a bit to eliminate the little bend in the gear.

The tank floor is in and ready to be glassed in after the filling epoxy sets. I did move up the tank floor 1/4" from the print.
I also included some pics of my shop. The two benches are anchored to the wall, flat and level. They are great for wings and foam cores. These pics, and a few more, were taken for the club's basement of the month last year. The winter project was flown this year.

The nose gear is set. I did lengthen it a 1/4" and will do the same for the mains. We have a great, well manacured grass field. 99.9% of the time

I had a minor problem as the cores were cut askew. I trued up both the root and tip. I then added 3/32" to fit it to the print. It took longer for the glue to dry than fixing it. I cut out for solid elevators. I didn't have much to glue my hinge points to. The stab is ready for joining and the anhedral sanded in at the root roughly 2 degrees per side. This gave me the 2" called for at the tip.
The wing are also sheeted. I have added some Cf horse hair to the TE hoping to help w/ the dings

Ed,

One thing I did on a recent Tipo build was to follow the build instructions and use one screw up front for the wing and two in the back. However, because of the curvature and thickness of the wing at the LE I found out that it's possible to actually over tighten the wing and have the hardwood dowel exit the top of the wing near the mount plate. This doesn't happen at the TE as the dowels are captured by the flush TE with the mounting blocks and the thin ply plate on the bottom which prevents over entry of the bolts.

In short, I no longer plan to mount my foam wings like that if I don't need to. I'll use the dual dowel approach on the wing LE with a 1/8" ply plate at the fuse junction. On the backside of the glass you can also install a couple of squares or rings of ply to anchor the dowels. Many don't like the dowels but they also make for a faster wing mount.

Just wanted to relay that experience. The last thing we want is to have a detached wing from the fuse of a just finished build...

David

I second the dual dowels at the leading edge method. I always do it that way regardless of  what the plan says.

Hi Dave,
I built three Tipos in the past w/o a problem like that one. I like to glass the dowels in so they can't move. I use a heavy then two layers of 3/4 oz. cloth overlap. I'm not a big dowel in the LE either. I did notice that the elevators are bigger on the Illusion compared to the Tiporare. My sanding jigs were too small.

I like your choice on the bright green, blue and white paint scheme . I did something similar on a Patricia ....refreshing. There are thousands of red, white and blue paint schemes. The bottom is akin to D. Brown's aircraft of old. Keep up the good work...

I like the camo, use the drops to light up the place when it disappears in the trees. Big impression points!
