I bought my first gas engine a DLE 30 and a XOAR propeller.I have a drill guide do i ream it out first if so what size reamer and drill bits do I need?

Status: offline 		I posted this question a while back. This is the PM I got as a response:

"to drill the centre hole out use a 10.1mm drill bit then the drilling jig will go straight in. "

I haven't gotten to the point in my kit build that I need to install the engine so I haven't done it yet so I can't say I've done it personally. I do know that the center hole on the xoar 18" props is 8mm and 19" goes up to 10mm. Hope this helps or is at least a starting point.

Status: offline 		I bought a DLE 30 a couple of years ago, and knew with my technical ability I was
going to have trouble drilling the holes for the prop. Luckily someone told me
about Valley View RC, they have a one hole prop adaptor that fits on the
DLE 30. It eliminates any drilling in the one hole prop. I think it sells for about
29 dollars. This may help. Aframe2

Status: offline 		You can go to Home Depot and get a drill press for around a 100 bucks.....that is the only way to get good holes is with the guide and a press....A 100 BUCKS you cry....If it save you 2 props it paid for itself.

Status: offline 		I use a drill press, and made my own drill guide on my lathe. I drill the center hole first, lay the guide down with the shank end of the bit I used and orient it so the holes give me a 2 pm position for starting. Then center punch one hole, and drill it. Lay down the guide again using the big bit shank to center and now the small bit shank to position the guide and center punch the second hole and drill it. I only use two holes in line with the blades, no need for four.

Status: offline 		Do all your drilling from the back of the prop hub. You can be off a little bit with your drill angle and still get all the bolts into the motor hub no problem. A little bit is a milimeter or two...........................use a drill press if at all possible..........always drill from the back.

Status: offline 		Be aware that the Valley View one hole adapter requires you to cut the crankshaft to install it. Nothing wrong with that but I chose not to use it because I don't like modifying a brand new engine.

Status: offline 		Its not the crankshaft you cut, its actually the retaining nut, (they call it the pilot shaft portion). I was concerned about that too. So I'm looking for a separate nut to go on there. I havent looked yet so I dont know if I can even find one.

Status: offline 		I use the Valley View adapter on my DLE 30 and 55. Why mess with the old multi bolt hubs. That came from way back and hasnt changed just like the weed eater/ chain saw carbs also. Get the adapter and never worry about drilling the holes again.
