Status: offline 		Small gas engines are popping up everywhere. Every mfg wants to be THE mfg to set the standard for others to follow. I can see why they're pursuing this market. I take an optomistic view on this. I embrace these mfg's attempts.

Its a matter of time before they get it right.

Status: offline 		OK, so I should really say three fuels right now. 32:1 for the regular gassers, 15:1 for the converted Super Tigres, and 15% glow. Maybe one day I can get rid of the 15% glow. I like the power of the converted Tigres too much to get rid of them yet.

Status: offline 		There is a needle bearing on the bottom end of the rod and a bushing on the top end.  We are continuing to do oil content testing for wear and longevity but for now we are sticking with the 20:1 recommendation.  I expect we will be able to recommend either 25:1 or 32:1 in the future but as of right now we have no long term data to stand behind that.

Status: offline 		Smaller engines usually come with bushings in the connecting rods do to size and space limits, but require more oil. When you can get bearings in the rod, mainly the lower end you can reduce the amount of oil used.

Status: offline 		I really would like to use this engine in a .60 pattern plane I have, so I hope to see good feedback. I too got burned on the JBA 15, I replaced it with the DLE 20. What a great engine that is. I am confident that this engine will operate well. Mainly because I do not feel Horizon would bring something to market that has not been fully tested. That being said, I will have to sit back and watch for a while to see,/hear feedback.

Status: online 		Here's a little more pictorial explanation.  I've attached a couple photos that should help understand it better.  AJsToyz has a pretty good explanation too.  Basically there is more friction and heat associated with the bushed bearing since it is just two pieces of metal rubbing against each other hence the necessity for more oil in the fuel.  Realistically it is much more than just two pieces rubbing against each other but that's a much more detailed answer.  The needle bearing provides a much "smoother" ride than the bushing but in sizes this small it is difficult to make a bearing strong enough to handle the forces that engine operation places on the bearing.  The bearing needs less oil content because it is not generating as much friction and heat.

I hope that wasn't too involved but still helpful.

The old classical .60 pattern planes tended to have fairly high performance 10cc engines on them. The 9cc and 10cc gas engines are more like strong .45 or .46 engines.
The Phoenix Pattern plane ought to do OK with the Evo 10cc engine though, as it flies pretty good with .45 through .55 engines.  The bigger .60 size pattern planes might be a bit too large for the 9cc or 10cc engines, but they'll fly with them though. I am running a 9cc gas engine on my .45 size pattern plane and it flies really well with it. Now granted when I had the plane setup with a Fox .60 glow engine  it definitely had a lot more power and speed then. But I think it flies really well with the little 9cc engine on it. My .45 pattern plane has a 59 inch wingspan using a mildly swept back wing. Of course it won't do a 300 foot loop with the 9cc gas engine like it does with the .60 glow engine on it.  The Evo 10cc gas engine is a small case .60 engine, so it'll fit where the .45 through .55 engines will fit.

Status: offline 		I expect this to be a top quality engine. I have an Evolution 80GX and an Evolution 26GX gas engines. I also have some other DLE and an OS and a Zenoah. I have to say that the two Evolution engines run better than all the other ones as far as reliability and quality goes, and I have never had a dead stick on either of them.

I also have Evolution glow engines a .61, two .52's, a .46, two small case 60's and a 1.20. They all run very well. I expect this to be a great motor just like the rest of the bunch. They are not the lightest, not the cheapest but they are a great line of engines.

Status: offline 		Yes I did do some testing with this and my experience was that the plugs lasted only about a 1/2 hour of running.  It has been a little while and others may be having better experience with this.  We also experimented for a while with standard glow plugs and E85 gas with some success but again had a plug longevity problem.  In the end we like the ability to control exactly the ignition point with the electronic ignition.
