Yes it will - drops right in anywhere a 40, 46 or 52 sized engine would normally fit.

Pete

How about where an OS 55 AX would normally fit ?

Same question again ! Will it fit the ame as an OS 55 AX ?

I looked on Tower Hobbies website, and found out the .55 AX and the .46 AX have the same mounting dimensions.  I know from experience that the OS .46 FX, AX, and the Evolution .46 NX have the same bolt pattern.  So, yes, it will fit the OS . 55 AX bolt pattern for mounting.  I will also throw this out, the Magnum .52 4-stroke has the same mounting dimension too.  I don't think Horizon Hobby is going to address fitting issues for motors they do not manufacture or sell.

For experimentation purposes, I am trying out smaller technology we already have. I've successfully run an engine on a plane with a coil-on-plug system for a CM-6 plug. Worked perfect for me with ignition module and advance board in a very small box.

The small aluminum box is sitting on top of the current size RCexl ignition case. It is half the size and about half the weight of an RCexl unit, and the ignition board and advance board inside. I run a 4 cell AAA nimh 700 pack and get over an hour flight time with it. Lipo's would be even lighter with a 2 cell 7.2 volt pack around 900 mah. Makes it possible to tuck it into a tank compartment since if you are running gas, you only need roughly half the size tank. I am running a Fox .15 on ignition with this setup and it performs nicely. Slight needle adjustments for the 20:1 gas/oil mix but was worth the trouble. A good .46 with a small ignition system will be what we are looking for.

We are shipping these engines from our two warehouses today to the dealers who backordered with us early. I think you'll see them on the shelves of you favorite hobby shops by mid next week.

Have fun!

Pete

It seems to me that even if the mounting is not a direct swap, minimal modification would be required to get this engine to fit.

Well, I'm sorry to say we had a logistical hangup and the 10GX didn't ship today. We expect it to go out around Tuesday.

Sorry for the false alarm!

Do you Horizon guys know about how long these engines are on back order ? I just ordered one from your website for my new in box Hangar 9 P-40 Warhawk 50, and would like to know about when I can expect it. Thanks for all the great info you guys have provided, I think this might work out to be the perfect engine for this plane. Any thoughts on the subject ? Thanks again, Shoo

Shoo,

As described in my last post, it will ship this week, probably around Tuesday. Sometimes consumer shipments of a new item don't go out until after the dealer shipments, but usually they go out at the same time.

Okay, thanks David. I wasn't sure because after watching the videos and reading about this I just ordered one this morning. Looks like you guys will have a winner on your hands. I have about 4 Evo's right now and they have all performed great ! I have  a 45, a 46, and two 61's. In fact I put the 46 in an old Hangar 9 Advance40 last week because I was sick and tired of dealing with the two OS 46FX's I have and their peeling liners. The 46 Evo makes very good power and seems to be close to the OS, along with a little quieter running. The 46 also has a nice slow idle, almost like a 4-stroker ! Needless to say I am one very satisfied EVo engine owner and will continue to buy your products as long as they continue to perfrom at and above my expectations. Thanks again, Randy aka Shoo

there is a 52NX helicopter version but I really doubt they will convert it to gas.
1- sport flight does not convince everybody
2- glow helicopters market is half-dead
3- OS.15cc gas engine is coming soon let's see if it's going to be successful

While not a winter project being contemplated, the Evolution 10cc seemed it might make a good combo with Seagull's Funfly 3D 46-55. If successful, it might be the impetus to thin out some of the smaller glow stuff in the hanger that doesn't get flown much and is taking up space.

My glow engines haven't gotten run much and now out of hanger space... they will be weeded out to make room for something that will be used.

I've noted quite a bit of very cheap or free two stroke glow stuff at our field making it a good time for a newbie to get into RC cheap. I've got some in that category but have more 4 strokes I'm not ready to part with. I like the way they sound and clean up and fuel economy is not as bad on them.

I was thinking if they could do a .60 gas with .50 glow power then some would be interested for sport flying and scale helicopters. There are still alot of people flying Trex 600n and Rapter .50 heils.

From what I can tell, the OS gas heli engine is for 700 class helis, but the power to weight ratio is really low.
