Looks like a neat engine Horizon have on their books. In the process of sticking it in my Hangar 9 P40B. Should be a real good option for that plane I hope.

Yes... the 10GX should be a good choice for the P-40. I came very close to pulling the trigger for the P-40 and at one time needed only one more click to confirm an order, but out of concern for our fields rough conditions I opted out, but now am wishing I'd gotten it. Not sure if Horizon will get another shipment, oh well I'll watch for it... enjoy.

I saw them onsale at Horizon for $99 a couple weeks back. Tough to pass up on that price. Only wish I hadn't jumped in first up and paid retail for it. Lol

I hope if they do this that they design it to run higher rpm like the 10gx. To me the biggest drawback of the dle20 is it doesn't survive well at higher rpm, so a 15cc of about the same weight as the 10gx would be a good solution, especially if they had a better muffler system like a wrap around muffler such as the ones Jtec sells. The 10gx muffler is pretty huge for a lot of applications. And the bisson muffler they suggest is designed for side mounted engines. They need a muffler for inverted mounting.

Thanks for your suggestion - are you mounting your engines inverted?

I have serious doubts about trying to work with Jtec - I spent LOTS of time with them (sent them dimensions, pictures, etc) trying to get a wrap around muffler for my Super Tiger 2300 to fit in the cowl on my World Models GS mustang (81 inch wing) and they decided they would send me an older design which DID NOT FIT. When I complained they acted like I had NEVER talked with them about it, and the wanted me to do all the measuring all over again. Turns out they had done this old muffler for someone else and had an extra on the shelf which is what they sent to me. Then they wanted me to pay them more money to fix the muffler they sent to me that didn't fit.

So the only way I will deal with them is if someone else works out a design and Jtec or someone sends me a drawing with dimensions on it so I KNOW it's going to fit before I send them any money. Once burned twice shy I say.

Thanks anyway.

I tired the OS needle with limited success. It screws in nicely but wouldn't go in far enough to properly lean it out. It bottomed it out just as the engine started to sound nice, but it was still several hundred RPM shy of the original HS needle setting. If the needle body was another 1/8" longer I am sure it would have worked out fine. Oh well...

Dave,

do you think the factory needle is the way it is for a reason...i'm in the process of of putting my plane together on hanger 9 katana 50..i've run my engine some on the test stand..can't really tell on the stand until the engine is off the load..i did take some 320 sandpaper and knock the edge off the high side needle on the end...i'm gonna run it the way it is for a while to see how it adjusts...what blades have you tested and which size you like the best far as performance ...12 x 6 in the manual says best all around...

I'm sure there is some reason the HS needle is flatter than standard glow needles, but I and others at my flying field have found that there isn't any fine tuning adjustment to it. One click makes a difference between lean and rich. Another guy took his needle out to examine it before firing it up and discovered a burr on it. He took a jewelers needle file and touched it up. I'm not recommending anyone modify their needle, but if you cannot get it dialed in after a lot of flying time, it may be something to consider. I had over 1/2 gallon through my engine before experimenting with the needle shape.

On the 8lb Meridian airframe (dry weight, no fuel), my Evo likes a 12x6 APC the best. I flew it with a 13x6 and it worked pretty good but you could tell there was a performance decrease in aerobatic "snappiness". I think 8lbs is about the "performance limit" for this engine. I've also put the Evo on a 7lb trainer with a 11x7, 11x7, 12x6, 13x4 and 13x6. On that plane, the 12x6 and the 13x4 was the best match. I have a good 60-75 degree vertical climb out with those props.

YEA Dave,

i have run mine on the stand for about 1/4 gal and it seems to do really well..i made sure to get the temp up over 180 degrees and it seems really impressive on the stand..i have the hanger 9 katana 50 to put it on..the bare frame weighs 3.5,so hopefully i want be all that heavy when completed..i am gonna use life batteries so hopefully that will help some on the weight and gonna put pitts muffler on it and that will shed an ounce or two..my thinking is the pitts muffler will be more suitable for a gas engine..i'm not really clear why they went this type of muffler..i guess to keep from having to make different ones...i'm really excited about the first flight and hope i'm not dissappointed ..its really strong for a gas engine its size...    i will let you know how the first flight goes after i do my maiden....thanks ...craig

I talked with Al @ JTEC this morning about making 2 wrap around style pitts mufflers for my hanger 9 B-25. I will be sending him one of the engines for making these mufflers. If anyone is interested in getting one or two made he will have something to refer to. My distance from prop hub to the rear side of my mounts will be 4-3/4". He mentioned he would like to use 1-1/4 OD chamber but mine will only be able to use  1".  The price is around 80.00 for one. I have had one other custom pipe made from them for my jba 15 that turned out very nice.

I dont have any pictures, I am going to send the engine in the next day or so. I was planning on inverted, I was wondering if the horizontal muffler would lose any power?
