I am looking at purchasing a bench top sander for various airplane sanding chores. Initially, I was looking at a combo sander with a 3-4" belt and 5-6" disc. My thought was that it would be good to have a couple of different grits for different purposes. My thinking has evolved towards purchasing just a 12" disk sander thinking that this is probably all I need. With a 150 grit disk on it, it should be a good general purchase sander.

What have all the builders used successfully?

I am going to pick up one of these tomorrow, they are on sale for 49.95 till Sunday. Best of both worlds at a great price...

I been getting buy for many years with a small sander from Dremel and it's still works fine, but for 50 bucks, it's time to upgrade..

When I bought one of these I figured I would use the belt more than the wheel, However I use the wheel the most by far. If I was to buy a new one I would get the biggest side wheel I could...

If you buy a disk sander is is a nice feature to have the motor reversible. It is sometimes nice to use the other side of the table/wheel.

Mine is belt and disc but I belong to a wood working club and they have several different types and I use them all. The sander Mustang showed is an outstanding choice and the price is sure right. I could sure use a new one in my shop.

I have a belt-disc sander and almost never use the belt. If I had it to do over, I'd go the way you're thinking of going.

I have a Ryobi belt-disc sander and love it.
Having a multi-tascker sure saves a lot of space.
I admit the belt is used more than the disc;
often times, for RC stuff, it isn't even turned on.
It's nice to have a solid piece of sandpaper so convenient to make
a small adjustment.

I have learned through life, buy more than you need right now, eventually you'll need it.

Good Luck,

The sander I use the most is the 1" vertical belt. I have a 6" disc / 4" belt sander and seldom use it, only for big heavy jobs with isnt very often. I dont have as much control for the finer detailing as the 1" belt.

Picked one up at Menard's Saturday. had a $40.00 Menards certificate from last year and put it to good use on a sander. Looks to be decent quality, time will tell.

Thanks for the "Heads-Up" on this offer !!!

i have a delta 10" band saw, most used tool in my shop. this one is 20 years old and still going strong!!
one thing to do before you buy find out the size blade it uses and shop around and see how available they are, mine are starting to get hard to find

I have one of the old Ohio forge band saw's. I can only get blades at Ace or online, when it breaks not waiting for online. So check availability before purchase. I have a cheap belt/disk sander from Harbor Freight, I use both equally, depending on task.

I've found the belt/disc sander I have to be very limiting on what I can do on it. I ended up buying a sander that combines and oscillating spindle with a horizontal belt and have found it to be my "go to" sander. Here is a link so you can take a look:

Search online. Many band saw blade suppliers cut to your specifications.
I have a craftsman, they use odd sizes to keep you coming back in, the B@$&@()*

Good Luck,

I have a Rockwell 14" bandsaw that use's a 93.5" blade...I order blades from Acklands and I believe they custom make them...What I use are 1/4" 24 teeth per inch , They are wiggly like a hacksaw blade and you can cut aluminum or lite ferrous metal's or pretty much what ever we run into hobby wize...I order 12 at a time and they cost around $10.00 each..That lasts me for a long time...

Here is the one I got several years ago.
I've never looked back.
