I have wanted to own one forever.which one flies better. The TF P47 looks awesome I have a90 or120 in my shop.thinking of upgrading the retracts.have flown rc too many years to count..a fellow rc'e r stated the H9 was better flyer than TF. All opinions are welcome and pics too.

They are both good flyers - I've flown both of them. The Top Flite is a better warbird and flies more like a warbird. They both would be good first warbirds. The covering of the H9 makes it easier to see on cloudy days. The structure of the Top flite is better suited/stronger if you want to go with a gasoline engine like the dle20.

Thanks.I am leaning towards the topflite as I want to use either my 120 or use a dl e 20.it might be a little tougher on some days to see but I have good skies here in Florida.what retracts did you use.I was thinking electrics ?

I used Spring Air retracts, which at that time (15 years ago for the Top flite) were my standard retracts for all my warbirds. They use air to retract and when you release the air the springs in the retract cylinders extend and lock the gear. They were very reliable and much stronger than the plastic frame Robarts top flite recommended. Today Robart makes similar gear (the Spring Air patent ran out a few years ago). You will need to revise the wing structure a bit for these gear and you should beef up the wing structure in the area around the retracts to make it more robust when you do this mod. This applies regardless of which plane you get.

There are several electric retracts available - I haven't used any yet- two reasons:
1. I have air retracts in all my planes and a couple more sets nib on the shelf, and they are reliable and strong.
2. I'm lurking in the threads that discuss the electric retracts here on rcu to see which electric retracts are both reliable and strong - no clear winner yet but the Ledo retracts seem to be doing pretty well.

One more comment about the Top Flite - it's wing design is excellent. mine was built from the kit and would not drop a wing when it stalled - it would sort of mush ahead and would recover very quickly when you applied power. But it needed POWER to fly well - kind of like the full size p47 .

My H9 Thunderbolt has Lado electrics in it and they've been absolutely troublefree since day one. Put Robart struts on 'em and the plane looks even better. The ground handling was even better too, thanks to the 'oleo' effect. They are what electrics are about: ease of installation, no maintenance to speak of, and scale speed.

Look closely at the dihedral angle the gear winds up having. Lado offers different angled gear to match.

I had to make the same choice between the two versions of the P-47 and selected the TF version. I liked what the reviews said and it had flaps which the H9 version does not. I put E-Flight retracts and the RCSkyLite P-47 struts on it. I used the OS 95V four stroke engine. Also I did the complete scale cockpit with full bodied pilot. It is already to go but has not yet been flown. It will be this coming spring.

I went with the TF over the H9.  I liked the construction better on the TF over the H9.  Haven't flown yet, but went with eflite 60-120's, CC ESC/ BEC, and a Hacker A50 16L

For the spring Air retracts, or the Robart - I would get the version that accepts spring oleos directly into a pocket in the body of the retract and avoid the retract version that has a hole for wires/wire adaptors. It's a lot easier to then get oleo struts that go directly into the pocket and eliminate grinding flats on thos wires - this is one of the things that to me is a pain in the neck. The spring oleos will give some shock absorbing action on landings which reduces the tendency to bounce back up off the runway on a slightly hard touchdown. Plus they look much better than the wires in my opinion.

I have a set of Wingspan electric retracts in my Top Flite P-51, and they are bulletproof! They will take struts up to 1/2" diameter, no music wire, scale retract speed, really good retracts!

Top Flight all the way on the 60 sized! mine was such a great flyer...wish I wouldn't have sold it. But I wanted bigger
Now when you get to giant scale I think the hanger 9 is way better than the top flight

Thats what I bought the giant H9 P-47...really nice bird flies like a trainer

I have both the H9 and TF 60 sized P47 hanging side by side in my shop. The TF is much, much, much better than the H9. It really looks like a P47 where the H9 only kinda looks like a P47. I have a SuperTigre 75 in the H9 and a DLE20 in the TF.

The build quality is better on the TF but I traded mine before I flew it. The H9 I had didnt impress me and I sold it after one day of flying it and adjusting it. The guy that eventually bought it still flies it and loves it.
Id go TF if I was to get another one. Better built, better looking and better flaps for an ARF 60 size P-47D.
