I got mine too, I was looking at the new Tower talk that came in the mail today, (Prices good through 2-28),  I don't know if it is a typo, but the Top Flite Corsair 60 ARF is 364.98 So definitely a good time if you plan on having one in the Hangar!!

Appears the overall quality of Corsair ARF covering runs the range from smooth/excellent to wrinkled prune. I am a long time Monokote user and recognize a poor covering job when I see it. I know that time in shipping containers can affect the covering but some parts were not pulled snug when attaching the film so they end up looking like a part in a Monokote baggy and no amount of heat can shrink it properly.

Recently assembled a Giant Big Stick. All parts except the stab/elevator were perfect. Had to recover the tail pieces as the parts almost slid around inside the covering.

My Corsair ailerons, stab, elevators and rudder are almost as bad. Wing panels are heavily pruned and wrinkles are ironed down tight. Obviously no shrinking was done prior to ironing down to bond with the wood.

Gull center section is a work of art as well as the fuse. I'm guessing newbies at the factory get to cover the little pieces, experienced the more complex.

I have purchased a number of Scratch & Dent ARFs listed as wrinkled covering, but none were as bad as this.

Mine will be stripped and recovered anyway so no issues for me.

I guess in some cases what UPS doesn't crush, the questionable factory quality isn't far behind.

Sounds like in this case you get what you pay for. Maybe a good candidate for a glass and paint job.

I just received mine yesterday. No shipping damage at all and the cover job is actually very nice, with only a few small wrinkles on a horizontal stab.
My son is pushing me to go electric with this one, I am considering it.

Received my Topflite Corsair .60 ARF today at $199.99 from Tower, to my doorstep, looks great and can't wait to get started on it, trying to decide on what to power it up with( any recommendations?? we are a mile high in Colorado) and to see if there are any electric retracts(good or bad??) that would work. This has to be one of the better buys in mail order RC that I have seen for quite a while, thanks, Santa, Bob.

I use OS91s in all my 60size warbirds. They are only an ounce or two heavier than the OS60s, so cause no balance issues. They also spin Master Airscrew 3 bladed props of larger diameter than what would work with a 60 power powerplant. And they'd have the extra power you need in Colorado.

As for electric retracts, there isn't anything on the market worth the price or effort. The existing rotating gear either won't extend 100degrees or are weak and unreliable. There is nothing to suggest that will change anytime soon.

The airplane just might be a great buy quite possibly because of the gear situation.

bjbellino: I fly at 3700' off a smooth petromat runway. OS 108 2s works well. You need some weight in the nose. With this engine and the RX battery under the fuel tank, no extra balance weight was needed. Came in at 10 lbs.

I am using air Robart 615 retracts with 3/16" wire struts. Once I got the 615s square on the retract rails they worked just fine. The retract rails seem to have a slight curvarture in the front, kind of following the wing. If your runway is rough, wire struts may not work so well.

19 flights so far. Quite happy with the plane.

Brian

E-flite doesn't make a set of rotators for anything over 8 lbs.

I flew a set today. They are on the H9 50size Corsair. I've had it out about 3 times since finishing it about a month ago. The frames seem to be suited to the size E-Flite advertises. They aren't exactly robust, but look good enough to stand up to what you'd expect from a 46-55 size model. The motors seem adequate. However... one wire strut bent the first time out. The other bent today. Neither should have, since in both cases the model simply rolled into the longer grass beside the runway. Both times the sucker was coming to a stop and didn't go in but inches. I'm not the least bit impressed with their choice of wire since they have a shock-absorbing coil in them.

A buddy of mine has the same ones on a H9 Hellcat that is big-time heavy. He bends the wires back every so often. I don't think they've failed to operate which is much more important.

Another buddy has them on the same H9 50size Corsair. We built them at the same time. He had one side burn out while he was assembling. He has only a couple of flights but hasn't had a problem in them.

E-Flite has advertised a larger size but has yet to produce them. Hopefully they learn something from their 46size.

As most know the metals from china can be less than desirable... This contributes to your retract woo's....

Tower had the GIANT P-40 for about 400$... but when taken into account the retract price, it wasn't cheap. 500$ for retracts...
Still up to about a grand.... I have yet to finish my Giant mustang....so coudn't see doing it...

I may get this corsair though.... They lowered the price of the 60 size p40 at one time as well....

This is a good sized plane, and can be ready to fly, for quite inexspensive....
I may skip the retracts.... and just fly as it...

Just want to add....
I hate shipping ANYTHING during the hollidays.... UPS beats the snot out of everything they drop off!....
They must use hooks to hold up extra boxes....
Just do to this, I don't know if I would want a plane delivered at this time!.....

I had 2- not one but 2 GP giant wacco with a HUGE hole in boxes I am talking a 12 inch hole!... like a for lift went through it...
..... It just happened the 2nd one hit through, where there wasn't anything there....
I am deeply Vexed....

I am going to talk with the driver, even if it wasn't him, as it most likely is when they load them up....
DICKs.....

The big brown truck dropped mine off yesterday. All I can say is mine is in great shape, I was worried after others said theirs was damaged. Everything was packaged so good I was getting upset because it took me so long to get out of the box lol. I started some today and I will post pics tomorrow if we are still here :-)...

The price is very good on this plane right now. I would like to buy another one. Mine is about done getting filled and primed after glassing it. The covering was just too loose for my comfort. It peeled right off except at a few places where they use filler. BTW, the filler was some type a spackling paste.

My Corsair is here as well. Nice covering job, especially since I'm in Florida and the humidity doesn't quit in the "winter". I've decided to try the Hobby King electric rotating retracts since I've had such good luck with their standard electrics in my H9 and TF 60-90 size warbrids. The struts on the rotators are 5mm, which is very strong stuff, thicker than the 3/16ths you get with the Robarts. The HKs also have metal trunion blocks. Footprint fits almost perfectly, but am waiting for the updated set before I start bragging. I use the TF Mustang struts on my Dirty Birdy HK electrics and they work great. The plane weighs 8 pounds. The struts work on my 9 pound Spitfire as well as my TF AT-6/SNJ which is even heavier. The struts on the AT-6 are 5mm and plug right in. Price was $35 for the PAIR, with struts, axles, and hardware. HK recommends staying under 8 pounds with the retracts, but I know they can handle more from experience. The Corsair will come in around 8.5 pounds with a .95 OS stroker if I'm careful assembling it. Final note, I have HK retracts in three planes and a helicopter. Mine work flawlessly. They simply can't be beat for the price. If you dislike HK you might want to try them before you knock the product. Search HK for "servoless retracts" for the details.
