An engine that has been owned for a long time but never run is getting ready to go into service. It is an old school Blois mid modified 230.When examining it I decided to check the exhaust timing.I was a little bit suprised to measure only approx 165' of exh duration. I can see a small cut at port top and the port has been raised only slightly in the corners. From what I gather this timing is quite low.Was this normal for back in the day?Should I raise the port for use with a pipe. Something like 175' duration or what? Here it is in what will be its home.Yea I know it's one of those horrible Dumas scale hydros, buts it's part of the long ago old school project.

put a 260 top end on it instead of trying to port it. a stock 260 puts ot more power than a mod 230

I would run it, Bloise was pretty good back then. Too bad you don't have his pipe to go with it!

Thanks for the replys.I think I will just cut the port to about 175 or so and come up with a pipe and that should be good enough for this boat.It was never intended to be an all out hot rod,so I will make do with what I got.
