What you need to achieve is .019-.020 clearance between the squish band and the piston crown at Top Dead Center. To measure this, take out the plug and take a length of solder wire and bend the end like an L shape. the lower bend needs to be about 3/8 an inch long. place it in the plug hole and allow the end of the "L" to touch the edge of the liner. Turn the engine over by hand with the flywheel. Remove the solder wire and measure the squished end with a Micrometer or a vernier.

I've used this method since the 1970's and have had accurate results every time. Remember when you use higher nitro, your engine will crank out higher RPM at a richer setting, you just can't hear it. If your engine is screaming on the straights, the HSN is set way too lean and you will go through plugs needlessly.
