Sorry but you are wrong antennas don't work in such way. If you wrap the wire around a tube you are making an inductance, then the impedance in the end will be absolutely different.

Thanks for the correction. We are making a inductor while attempting to make a helical antenna to hide in the vehicle without figuring out all the numbers ( diameter, pitch, length, load inductor, etc. ) My fault .

I practised that moving metal tracks very often cause additional interferencies  - for example in 35 MHz receiver and  Elmod system.
Tamiya system is compeletly resistant for such  problems .....

only $22 for a radio and receiver on 2.4 ghz ? wow.

Commander, I like the pictures you posted on motor cover. I was just using tapes to isolate the wire biting gearbox

Yes that radio is awesome. Both Channels five and 6 have variable control; so they are just not on and off. When using a DBC3 you can use a servo for gun elevation and get rid of the Heng long cam, finally giving you control of the gun elevation without having to cycle through the cam

I am not sure why more guys don't switch over. This stuff is less expensive then the Heng long radio and you have 2.4 gHz technology, with no need for more antenna then the small one that comes on the receiver.

Ha ha ... the radio's total cost will be just a tad bit higher than that , shipping + extra part needed.

Anyone interested, the HobbyKing T6A is a great radio, & anyone getting one will more than likely be happy with it for the cost, but they should make sure to absolutely order the necessary USB programming cable for it too, because the T6A package doesn't come with one.

It would be better to find out the actual total cost for everything (radio package+USB cable) + the added shipping costs at HobbyKing, then before you buy from HK, go over to HobbyPartz & check out what it would cost from them for the exact same 2.4GHz 6-Channel radio under a different brand, called the FlySky CT6B (which already comes with the necessary USB programming cable).

Because they are basically identical, see what the total cost is with shipping for each of those radios (including the USB cable purchase needed with the T6A)  from each of those vendors first, then just get the package that is the least expensive to purchase.

Here is the link for the CT6B => FlySky CT6B

Yes the radios are the same. I have had great luck with Hobby king as I also buy their Orange Spektrum receivers. Good point about getting the USB cable. USB cable is less then $3.00

Programming cable

Shipping is around $20. So all in you would be looking at about $45 to your door with a receiver

Bottom line is you can get 2.4 Ghz radios so cheap now , and be done with crystals antenna's

I would prefer a radio that I could program without the computer so this is a drawback on these radios

Flysky make a good radio that allows you to program 20 different tanks, and you can do all the set up on the radio without having to hook it up to a computer.

Thank you sir. I cannot stress how important it is to seal off the tank from the TUs. Antenna wires, battery wires (a big FIRE hazzard), dirt and loose screws and small parts that love to fall off or we drop into the tanks act like grenades in a gearbox. It amazes me how much guys do with gear reductions, motors and aftermarket parts...then let them get dirty and under lubricate them. Tape and hard clear plastic (I form fit many TU covers with a heat gun...Great tool for RC tankers) and foam at the output shafts are very effective in TU protection. Keep all your wires neat.

Are we far enough off the antenna topic yet? LOL

I am enjoying this thread guys keep commenting. BTW... I'd like to see some work on H L antennas since their radio range is the worst without the external metal whip antenna. My Futabas 27 AM. 72 & 75 MHz ans (2.4 of course) work perfectly without ANY external antenna.

In these pix you can see how my antennas set "Stowed". I've never had a runaway or radio reception issue. In the last two pix of a customers JP build, you can see how perfectly place the pinion fear is to eat an errant battery wire or worse yet...both....which means instant fire. Juste bump ionto something and there it is. The last shot is the simple shield before the final top cover.

to much work on keep it simple attach or solder the antennawire onto a steel antenne, its scale and works as hell ... and its very cheap , nothing more is needed ... its the same as tamiya does with his tanks and cars why make it so difficult

Hello, I have a tamiya M26 with Futaba 2.4ghz fhss-4yf4 with a R2004GF reciever. Does this mean I do not have to use that ugly tamiya antenna that sticks out of the turrent? I like the way you have the antenna wire wrapprd up.  Please advise me. Thank You
Frank

You can get rid of the Tamiya antenna if you are using 2.4 ghz. Instead you can make a more flexible scale one out of styrene rod that waves around a bit like the the proto ones do.

Thank you, I have been wanting to get rid of that antenna. Do I putty the slit hole up or just leave it. Also I thought about using a K&S thin metal rod attached to the plastic antenna base. What do you think? Please advise. Thank You

Put a round end on it to keep it out of your eyes, add a flag to the top.
Maybe you dont know, but 2.4 can all run at same time. No what channel you on?

you just make a scale steel antenna place it onto the turret and attach it to the receivers antenna could it be easier ... i don't think so guy's come on it is not chines am speaking here

Karel

Karel with 2.4 gHz you don't need an antenna. I agree with you if you are using a regular radio, but if you have made the swtich to 2.4 gHz,( which Rollin Armour has) you can use flexible styrene rod which looks much better then steel wire on a 1/16 scale tank, as it whips around like the real thing. Steel wire is too rigid.

hi all

to avoid inductance, you can wrap the wire like this, it's in Spanish but the pics are self explanatory

i has been told that this manner is how the ship guys did it for years

it's the system i use on my Tiger I and works like a charm

best regards

I dont want to revive a dead thread (although the corpse should be warm in this case......) but antennae are something I am having to consider at the moment.

Regarding coiled/wrapped antennae, here is an interesting site that appears to indicate there is a relatively drastic reduction in signal for coiled antennae....at least under the conditions of the experiment.  http://www.rc-cam.com/ant_exp.htm

Plus...before anyone starts.....a 12 fold reduction in signal strength may well not result in a loss of range for tanks (not planes) that serves to negate the perceived benefits on the aesthetic/practicality side.

Out of interest and seeing as this topic had already veered in the direction I am now going...

what sort of antennae in on/in the tank when using 2.4GHz ?

as in what does it look like....?

p
