I know it's close to Xmas and this may not be the best time to start posting a build and if there is no intrest shown then I won't bother to do it. This Tiger 60 will have every component of it modified amd will be powered with a DLE 20.

You guys get the call, if there is intrest and I will make it intresting "and" fun, then you should enjoy watching it come together. Build has started so what say, you with me ?.

I can promise one thing, you have never seen this done to a plane to this level.

Sounds great, I may have to pick up a 60 to go with my 40.

Thank you all 8 so far, I think thats enough for a building forum and I hope others will come along. I need to say one thing, starting a building thread and not having the company it takes to make it a joy to do just makes it pointless. Your intrest and involvement is what makes these threads intresting for everyone involved.

Thanks Ken, it will be nice having you along.

This is a brand new thread, starting from scratch so here we go. I chose the Tiger 60 because of the great flying characteristics and an airframe conducive to the bashing it's going to get. I intend to make a better plane out of it by improving on it's looks and abilities.

Pictures will show much of what I'm doing in red on the plans, I have constructed new trailing wing spar and leading aileron surfaces pre drilled for hing points and perfect alignment when assembled. New ribs from lite ply, part of support for the wing tube. There is much more to do so hang in there we are just getting started.

No up load tonight, will do it in the morning when things quiet down.

Spar and leading edge of aileron was cut on table saw, pieces have an 8 deg. taper

Been lurking! Boy howdy... do I ever understand your 'pointless' comment. I have a couple of threads on RCU that hardly get any looks at all. Hopefully someone will find the info useful like, maybe, how NOT to do something! LOL I always thought the Tiger would look great with a 'V' tail to mimic one of Leonn Davis' creations. Of course it would have to be yellow!

Hi ARUP, glad to see those that know the feeling, I see it all over the site. A V tail, Hum, another idea for someone. There are those that cut the wings down but I don't understand why they don't shorten the tail to go along with it. One thing for sure, the Tiger lends itself to bashing real well, you can do a little or a lot, depends on what you want to do with it. Be careful there is a limit to which you can go, this will never be a 3D plane but it can be very aerobatic .

Thanks ARUP,

Tiger needs a wing tube sleeve made from 1.5oz fiberglass. You can buy the tube but you have to make the sleeve.and it proved to be a challenge, once I figured out how to do it it's not that hard. If you want to know let me know and I'll post my method. Anyway it's done and fits the tube very nicely.

working on the fire wall, fuel tank mount, hatch for ignition modual which will be under fuel tank. Got the shear webs on wings and useing tri stock I cut from 1/4" balsa sheet to reinforce body pannels and formers. Structure as built from instruction book is a bit flimsy and several weak spots need attention. May be ok with a 60 size engine but a 20cc requires some improvements. Wing opening in fuse. will be closed up as wing is being raised 3/4" and that area will have a lite ply doubler. You notice those big gaping holes in fuse. sides, they add to weakness when taken out but add alot of weight if you don't so add a stiffener to help. Also the stab. mount is hard to glue in there and make it real solid, I would use epoxy on that one.

As usual this time of night you cant upload picts., will do it later

Hi Ken, not sure if I'll do any better with my own thread or not, time will tell. I think it takes guys a couple days or more to respond, they don't just hang out here. I come in and check it out when I'm waiting for glue to dry and I'll just slow down and see if any catch up. I would like to stay ahead in the build anyway.

How you doing, I get the feeling you really love the hobby so I can greeve with you some. I hope you recover to the point that you can get it on again. My heart goes out to you. hang in there and all may be well down the road we travel.

# 1 isn't all that important Ken I just want to have company while I'm having fun. We don't have the numbers of builders of the bygon days but I'm sure there are a few looking to learn a few things, at least I hope there is.

Take care and stay tuned.

You know Leroy it is in the giving part of this hobby that I have always felt the most pleasure , happyness , ect and in doing a build thread like you are doing you are giving anyone (that wishes to accept it ) a gift that can last them a life time by teaching them something..I think that is a wonderfull thing to do..And what you are doing to your Tiger is different and worthwile. I have been around long enough to know that . Just watching is giving me pleasure . Plus I believe I have learned a few things that I would like to try...And you are so rite being # 1 dosen't mean any more than we let it...

Slots in LE would be kinda cool- like what is found in a Culver Cadet. I did that with a 4*40. Fowler flaps? Tiger has a fat foil. I can post pics if you are interested. The ones I made are driven by one servo and work great. A little fiddly figuring the linkages but once done... no worries!

I started a build thread on the Tiger 60 a couple of years ago.  It went on for quite a while with many contributors.  There are alot of good ideas in that thread as well as another on the Tiger that ran around the same time.  Most of us at that time made our Tigers into taildraggers and added a closed nose `cowl.  I think a 20cc gasser will be way cool.  I look forward to seeing what other mods you make to yours.  I had a 4s .91 magnum on mine and it had plenty of power.  Most of us also added size to the rudder and elevator.  But since it is a typically tail heavy bird you will have to compensate for that.  That gas engine may be all you need for weight compensation.  I think if I build another Tiger I will look at adding flaps.  My Tiger landed alot better under power so flaps could give a slower (better) landing speed.  Keep the pics coming brudda.  Tigers Rule!

I also wanted to add retracts but the way I had it figured out I would have had to mess with the spar so I dropped that idea.  If you have that figeured out it might motivate me to build another Tiger.  BTW, I flew mine for a couple of seasons and late this summer I came to close to the earth.  It looked like I was trying to land....at full throttle.  It was the hardest "hard landing" I have ever had.  Time to build another one.

I am a bit confused.  What is the tube for on the wing?  It may be too much to ask but would it be possible for you to elaborate some when you deviate from the orginal plans?  I have built 2 Tigers.  The first I stayed with the original plan.  The second I bashed.  You have to go way back in the forum to find it but its still there if you would like to see.  What I am trying to say is that I can visualize the original plan with no problem.  But when you mention somethin that you are doing that is part of the bash it is hard for me to see it in my head unless I know what the original intent was.
Are you considering retracts?

Slots in the trailing edge, you mean Fowler flaps ?. Don't forget this is a sport plane not a war bird. Alot of guys say the Tiger don't need flaps but I'm begining to wonder with this big engine if it will want to come in hot. A 15 X 10 or 16 X 8 is going to be moving alot of air, flaps may be in order seeing I haven't got to that part yet. Whats another servo in the wings at this point. I think I would rather have them then to wish I did. Ailerons are taking up 15" of outboard wing so there is room teft to put a nice flap on it. Another option is flaperons but I don't know anything about them. I'll use a 6 channel duel aileron reciever if I go with flaperons, still things to consider.

Reguards, and If you want to post pict's. go ahead, could consider my options, thanks

Welcome Stevenmax50, glad to have you along. I did read your thread and all the other ones before I even started mine. I was looking for it's weaknesses and strong points, I was going to build it reguardless. I only found one with the DLE20 in it but no flying report on it.

The tube in question is for the slide on wings I'm doing, I'll have pict's, shortly as I just got them glued to the mounting rib that is bolted to fuse and I'm waiting glue to cure. No retracts for me I like the look of wheel pants on this one, it's a tail drager.

I'll get back to you a bit later, hang in there.

I had the fuse all banded up and basic wing put together, wing tube sleeve made and I kinda put it together just to see how things were working out and I'll some better picts of those components all glued up and put together a bit later.

Hope to keep you intrested, it's sure got me intrested and this stuff is fun.

I have done a wing with a set of Electric Retracts and I would not do another..It was not worth the work in my opinion...They bent if a grasshopper got in the way..I dont think the extra weight you add is worth the streamlineing you gain ...Maybe on a scale plane..We are putting them in our Spits but we are using Struts and time will tell as to how well they stand up......Stevenmax Built a very nice Tiger back a ways Sorry to here you lost it... Mine is still one of my main planes...It and my Cubs ..
