I'll make this short and sweet. What pipe do you recommend for a D8T with an O.S. .25XZ engine? Track is low bite with two medium straights. I won't bias you with the one's I'm considering. Wiould rather hear what you think the best bang for the buck is on this one.
Thanks!

I ended up going with the Dynamite 086 (I needed act quickly). Kinda ccrazy as I've been getting all the equipment then someone asked me "what pipe are you running?" ;-) I thought, "Holy crap - totally forgot to order the pipe!!"

I realize the 086 has more top-end speed, but will give it a shot. Anyone running this pipe (with the os 25xz engine), I'd love to hear your feedback.

Thanks!

you hit the nail on the head pretty good with that pipe.... in the future you could look to swap to a Nova 41001 or 41019 manifold, as will give you a bit more kick... I would run a P4 glowplug with 30% fuel..gear your truggy up 1 tooth and get a M2C clutch.....What fuel do you intend to run ? a engine like a OS 25 is too radical to run on cheap fuel....On that 086 that 25 will be pumping 40 000 RPM and a cheap fuel will end up blowing out the rod..... I kid you not, that engine is no joke......IMO it is about the fastest stock Truggy engine on the market today.....they are truly badass engines !

a little OS 25 porn for you ! yes its a modified, but it gives you a pretty good idea of what these engines are all about

And in before the comments... I am not trying to sell my engines by posting this video, I Am just wanting to share my experiences with the OS 25 as I think it is a great engine...

Good to hear. I did a lot of research on engines, and feel comfortable about my decision. I was all over the place with pipe consideration, so glad to hear that is a solid choice as well. Regarding fuel, looking at the Losi nitrotane 30% or the Werks racing 30%. Would prefer the latter, but my LHS carries the Losi, and Werks is a little harder to find. I use the Losi nitrotane on my engines now (20%) and have had not problems. I've heard where people had problems with Nitrotane years ago, but I also understand that Losi has mofidied their forumula for it in the past few years. I am a little nervous going with 30%, so definitely need to stay on top of the engine's tune.

Regarding plug, I believe the engine came with a P3. I assume I can switch out with no affect on the engine?

Now just need to start considering the engine for my Mugen MBX6R. I'm looking hard at the Nova Bonito (which means I'll probably end up with something else). ;-) One guy who races at my track said it's "too much" for the track and recommended a B5 (he probably has one). ;-) I do like the B5 price!
Finally, thanks for the videos posted on the OS .25. That really gets me pumped to build this thing.

The old adage "don't believe everything you read on the Internet" is true.

Too many people insist that more engine power is a must have.  Case in point.  Werks Racing recommends the B6 for a buggy and not the B5.  He could just as easily recommended the B5, but there is a reason the B6 was developed at the request of Jeremy Kortz  It's smoother and more suited for a buggy.

The O.S. .25 is a powerhouse, but you won't see many on the track.  Ever wonder why?

Sometimes experience is the best teacher.  Max power seldom yields max performance on the track.  Fun for bashing, not so much for racing.  I guess wheel spinning, slip and slide has a strong appeal.

the P3 is a little hot for day to day running in that engine...for breakin the P3 is fine, but when tuned the engine may start eating the P3's...the P4 or even P5 will better suited........ The P3 will run quite well, but its not very durable during hard running....The lower the plug number the thinner the element inside the glowplug...the thinner the element the hotter it burns, but the more fragile it becomes.......... This is not a laughing matter as a broken plug coil can destroy a engine, the platinum wire used in the glowplug is much harder then the piston, if that coil drops into the engine while it is running the engine will be heavilly damaged....... Glowplug temeperature is the same thing as setting ignition timing on a car....the hotter the plug the more advanced the timing, and the colder the plug the more retarded the timing...The P3 us very very advanced..and because of that can bring on detonation under extreme loads..... which the OS 25 will provide...........

A guy at my track has one on a MBX6T and does quite well (in the brief time I watched him with it during practice). I also read a lot of reviews from truggy racers who own/have faced them and they were overwhelmingly positive. I was actually looking at .28 models, but the fuel consumption is what sold me on the .25. I guess I'm missing what you are saying? Is it that you think the OS .25XZ is too much power for a truggy on a track? Do you own, and/or have seen on a track? Not being a smart-a$$, just trying to better understand your comment.

You bought it and you own it, so I guess you'll form your own opinion.  I would be interested in where you read these reviews of truggys with the O.S. .25  Haven't owned one, but I did run a JPX .28 for awhile.  It was brutal and somewhat fun, then I moved on.

From the O.S. website of course! (Just kidding).

Mainly RCTech and the Losi forums (sorry, Foxy) and did read a few things on this site.  There were a few other random sites, don't remember them - just googled O.S. 25xz review. Also talked to my LHS "guy" as well as the track owner where I plan to race it, as well as the guy I saw running it, which pretty much sealed the deal for me. Honestly, that is about it. Unsure of a better way.

But, as you noted, the only true test to know if I'll like it or not is to get one, which I did. If I'm unhappy with it, I'll be the first to say it. I'm not one of these that likes things just because I have it. You seemed to not recommend it, I was just trying to figure out why that is. Then again, at this point it's too late, but if there is anything I need to know about it to take complete advantage of it, I'd love to hear it, as I am certainly no expert, which is why I reach out to you guys.

I've never owned one, but I would definitely like to.. Generally above my price threshhold though. But everything I have heard is overwhelmingly positive..

the OS 25 is a pile of fun.......... yes its overkill for most people, but the sheer thrill of running the engine is more then worth the price of admission..............It is actually not a bad engine to race, it is overpowered, but it has a very well modulated throttle response, so it can be driven mellow if needed, it is not a light switch by any means.... All in all they are quite excellent, one of my personal favorite engines....
