My take on it is...(after a close up inspection w/ jewlers loupe ) if the engine doesn't have a whole lot of time on it, and there is no visable varnish present...no ridge at the top of the bore...factory cross hatch still obvious...then leave it alone.

If the cyl. wall looks like it has a glaze on it, then I will use 1000 grit wet/dry w/ light oil wrapped around my finger...just a few minutes to clean things up some....no metal removed, just varnish, crud, whateveryawannacallit...

I have several Webra 61's. Black head and Speed. I have one Black Head 61 with a Dynamix carb. It is new in the box. Can anyone give me an idea when it was built?

Thanks

Richard

The ring came in the other day, and it has been installed. The compression"feels" better. He plans to run it in the next few days. I will keep you guys informed. Thanks again for the help.

I saw the engine run yesterday. The owner had it on a test stand at the field.....it SCREAMS! I didn't have my tach, and I forgot to check the prop size, but, boy, was it running great! I think I heard him say he originally paid $30.00 for the engine.....the only part bought was the Bowman ring......not a bad purchase.....thank you, guys, for all the help and advice.

I got a nice surprise today. I was given the Webra 120. The gentleman wanted to thank me for alll the favors I have done for him, so he gave me the engine . I promptly installed it on a Seagull Sparrowhawk 120. Since the ring was recently replaced, I'm guessing I need to treat it as a new engine, and break it in. is there a particular way a dykes ringed engine should be broken in?
