Status: online 		I have been going over these wing plans real good. Just want to make sure I have all the bases covered. There is one thing I will change. In the pic at the rear of the rib there is a rectangular cut out 1/4 x 7/16. This is for a piece of hardwood to run from outer rib to outer rib. I do not have the tools to replicate this 28 times as accurately as I want it. So I am going to change this to a 3/8 dowel.

What is your way to make the stringer notches ?
Do you have a technique to make accurate repetetive cuts ?

I believe I do.
Pic1-After the router while still attached to the templet I cut the recess in the band saw. -This band saw cut is not exact just loosens up the inside.
Pic2-Now I line them up square, true, and held firmly.
Pic3-Then I make a sanding stick with a mark for depth.
Pic4- Put a good straight edge on the cut and sand with the stick.

You seem to be moving at a fast pace. Love it.
You may have noticed with a couple of pictures I posted that I used flite skin fiberglass sheets instead of aluminum.
I am not completely happy with the way it turned out and have been thinking about removing it, smoothing the balsa skin again and using conventional glass and finishing resin.
I'm trying to talk myself out of it but it's not working.
I could then simulate the panels using high full primer.
Oh, what do I do?

Status: online 		Hey Wayne, Thank's.You know how it is as soon as I get thru the frameing it will slow way down. I have done panels with glass, aluminum, plastic, and even poster board. But leaving those big chunks of balsa out makes it a little different.  I got some litho plate from a friend, it is super thin and flexible. So I will back it with 1/64ply,  minus the overlap of course. I think, hopefully, this will be a bit lighter. But it does what I wanted to do and that is make them removeable.
  Here's the ribs all done with the dowel stuck in the back side. Fine tuning will take place during instalation, if needed.

Status: online 		All the nose of the Waco is 1/64 ply, the gear covers are aluminum, and the gear fairings are fiberglass.
The nose of the Cub is poster board, and the gear covering is balsa covered in flite metal.

Also if your gonna want any real down force there needs to be four magnets on the front instead of two.

Was going to ask you about your fixtures for your magnets.
Do you have any other types than the ones you just showed ?

Also on a build such as the Pitts, about how many fixtures will you use ?
How many magnets, loose and attatched to fixtures will you use at one time ?

The magnets come in a box of 100.
Are 100 sufficient for a build like the Pitts ?

Status: online 		Kevin they will sell any number just call them. I got 100  loose magnets and 13 fixtures. For hold downs I usually use the magnets under the piece with a rubber band.  I don't really use the fixtures much other than to hold something square. I could use a few more, probably 100. If I try to form up an entire wing like I am doing on this pitts I will use most of them. So 250 should be sufficient. As a matter of fact I think I am going to go and order myself another 100. Thank's!

Status: offline 		My S2 had, key word HAD balsa spars. Changed to spruce for the main center spar with the rear secondary spar balsa..

And yes, I do believe the flying wires are functional.

Status: online 		For those that have not done this I thought I'd share how I cut my ribs. I make a copy of the rib in question on my copier. Then I glue the copy to some 1/4 ply with 3m spray adhesive. I then cut this rib on the band saw and do a fine edge finish with a sander. This is now a template. I put two screws thru the template that will hold several pieces of balsa. I then screw the balsa to the template, one towards the front and one toward the rear, and then route the balsa useing a laminate trim bit.. The bearing on the bit runs the ply while cutting the balsa. All 28 ribs come out identical.
