Wow turned out super.   Thanks for the tips, the tape tip will definitely be helpful down the road.

The fuse has been sanded, the stabilizer and fin have been sanded as well  and installed. While that is drying I can get the rudder and elevator sanded.

The elevator and rudder are sanded and in place. And I think I'm done for the day. I know this morning I said I wanted to get the strips in for the fuse panels but I don't have the 1/16th ply to cut them from.

  Later!

Not much done today, some days are like that. I have to mow my clubs field tomorrow and will pick up the piece of 1/16 I mentioned earlier. On my plans there is a template for the cockpit opening. Is the template the size of the opening as if looking down from above or is it to be layed over the curvature of the wood and cut out?

Measure the width of the template at the rear and see if it matchs the former at the rear of the cockpit.

If its wider than the former, will a curve make it fit?

I awakened around 3am this morning with a though of "Hey dumb dumb you can do this" in regard to the cockpit opening. So when I got home I measured the opening height on the side view and the width on the overhead view. Put the template in place, marked with chalk, measured, and cut. When this is dry I will epoxy a 1" strip of glass on the inside edge of the opening, just to give it a little strength.

I have installed the 1/16x3/8 ply for the fuse panels, the black lines. Did not take as many as I thought, most of in front of cockpit fell on the 1/4 ply formers.

Robert, i dont quite understand - is there another panel that goes from the former where the front of your undercarrage sits to overlap the panel you have highlighted in black or is there only the one panel ?

John there will be six panels. Two yellow and two green, one on each side. And one red and one blue, of which goes across the top of the fuse.

Robert,
What are you going to make your panels from? I used 1/64 ply with good success on my 25% Waco. Steam it in a microwave for a couple minutes and it becomes very pliable. I added my panels after covering and gave then several coats of Polycrylic then primer and they were very convinceing for aluminum panels.

Anthony, I'm going to attach 1/64 ply to some very thin aluminum and screw in place. I used the 1/64 on my 1/5 scale Waco and it did turn out well. Just want to try something different.

Hi vasek,
I cut the ply close to the size I need then put a eough water in a dinner plate to cover the bottom. Set the ply in the water and microwave for 1-1/2 to 2 minutes. This will essentially steam the plywood and make it very easy to bend. I put it on the plane and finish trim to size with scissors then secure it to the plane and let it dry. Once dried it will maintain it's shape. Works good for removeable panels as well.
Later!!
Anthony

Hey acerc,

Where can I get my hands on a set of these plans? I also saw a post earlier from Rick about a 1/4 scale version. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Brian

Been workin on the wing bolt area. The current set up requires a 2-1/4" bolt. I installed a new ply bolt plate as seen in red. This will reduce the bolt length to 1". And also gives me a good point for an alignment dowel.
