David,
I have 1/2" stitches for a 1/4 Cub I bought for a buddy, once he gets off his butt and finishes the servo installation etc: I will be covering and detailing his plane for him.

BTW: I am in no way rich
Later!!
Anthony

Thank's for the support everyone. I will be working Florida Jets the next three days so no work on the Pitts. And when I do get back I have to make my own pinking tape. I had a conversation with the full scale owner and according to him they are not pinked. So, I will cut my own out of the polylite, and with a little advise from Anthony, it will come out good. Thank's Anthony!

If that stuff is anything like Solartex, you can tear out strips real easy.  Of course, not having used anything but Solartex and only on one plane so far.......

David,
It is not like Solartex it is actually woven polyester fabric. Imagine trying to tear a dress shirt into strips and not have the fabric frey. You have to seal the fabric before cutting into strips.

Ken,
Your welcome, this scale stuff can be alot of fun. There are alot of different methods for achieving the same results so it is just a matter of doing a little reseach and see which method seems best suited to your tatse and skills.
Later!!
Anthony

I saw you posted on the biplane forum.
Pinked tapes depends on what paint system and if it is certified or not. The pinking is there so not to make a hard line. Fabric can actually rip in flight if flown enough because as the fabric flexes and where the tapes are become relative hard spots. They knew this even in WW1 and the frayed the edges.
PolyFiber recommends pinked tapes but that does not mean people dont break the rules. Many people like how clean the straight tapes are. I think the dope mfg go back and forth.
The tape over the stitching is 1 1/2'' wide. The seams around the perimeter of the wing are taped too. 1 1/2" is legal but most use 3-4" wide tapes on the leading edges and 3" on the trailing edges and tips. The transition of the leading edge to the fabric usually has a tape run along that edge to reinforce. Most hard to soft lines are done like that like fuselage stringers. Rib tapes are applied first then the transition tape and then the perimeter tapes to help hold the edges down.
It goes back to what can you see in your documentation if you need to replicate it.

Oh and if you do a Pitts M12 it is popular to actually double cover the wings so there is no tapes. Cover the wing and stitch, and instead of tapes, they recover the whole wing again in the lightweight fabric. The Steen Knight Twister actually used Koverall to keep the weight down.

TFF thank's for the input. The tape sizes are 2&3" according to the owner of the fullscale, he also told me where which sizes go, which is a copy of what you posted. I recieved his email after posting on the biplane forum. Which by the way is a really good forum. I will join so as to help support. That and like I said there, I have came to the realization that I really like Bipes. Biplane forum will be a great asset.

Well another Florida Jets has come and gone. It was a good event but I about froze my but off. And now it's too cold, for me, to be outside brushing on strips. The wife is off work for 4 days so I definately can't get any fumes in the house. Maybe Tuesday I can get something done, it will be back in the 70's.

A few of the guys I hang with use A123's and have had great results. Quicker charge time's, which I don't need, and longer flight time's. But they are only useing one and they are much lighter. So I am going to give a LiFePo a try on this build. One battery for both Rx and ign. The new battery came while I was away so I did the rework of the connectors this morning. It came with a JST and a Futaba power lead and a JST-XH balance. I replaced the JST with a Futaba plug and will be making an adapter for the JST-XH to plug into a Futaba for charging ease. It would be nice only useing one battery and save space and weight as well with this little thing.Time will tell.

To fill the weave are you using minwax polycrylic? The water based stuff?

Brian that would be a no. I am useing the Stits system, the polybrush (which I spray) is the filler. And from what I have seen just from brushing the perimeter, two coats will do.

Is filling the weave going to pile the weight on a bit ?

John I have used the Stits system several times with Koverall. I personally believe it is the lightest method available. Two coats of the polybrush is my normal, only with Koverall it left the weave just a tiny bit open. With the tighness of the polylite I believe it will close it, if not I'll do three coats. On my previous builds the added weight total was less than a fellow clubmembers Solartex finishes.

Here;s another attempt to show the battery. The lead plugs were one Futaba and one JST, I replaced the JST with a Futaba. On the balance plug I bought an extension and made an adapter so to go thru my miracle switch charge port. This way I only use one battery and it is lighter and simpler.

Hi Robert, your build is going great and looking very impressive.
What are going to use for your ignition regulator? I've been using single batteries with ignitions for a while now. I use the Tech Aero IBEC. It has a built in regulator (with adjustable voltage) and RF filters. It plugs into a receiver port and then to the ignition. Works really well and I've never had any interference at all. Just a thought.

The wife has informed me she is going to town tomorrow. Add a little warmer weather for tomorrow to that and I will be working on the tape's. I have done a couple small sample runs of making the straight tapes and all I can say is, it's gonna get pinked. Don't like the results or the amount of time required for those results. So Pinked it is. Don't get me wrong I have all the time I want, but, I apparently am not willing.

Well Vincent a monkey wrench got thrown in to my plans. Yes, the wife is going to town and yes, it is going to be warmer. But this morning she informed me her and her mother was going to pick out a new matress set, for her mother. So I have to be ready, at a minute's notice, to go get said matress set. Oh well, such is life.

Well that monkey wrench was not to big. Was back by 11am. So off I went. The bottom of the wings and left side of fuse has been started. I will give it an hour to cure well then turn it all over for the other side.

Looks great Robert!.  Again you are so lucky to get to work outside, maybe sipping on some Margaritas... then again no, your tape lines would probably come out crooked.   Keep up the good work.

Thank's VJ. The fumes from the dope is enough, don't need no liquor as well. Although a little Vodka couldn't hurt, of which I always have in my shop.
Here's the rest of that size tape. I will wait until tomorrow or maybe, thursday when the wife goes back to work, to do the perimeter tape. The perimeter tape is the hard part of tapeing.
