Well, I change my mind. After pouring over photo's I have realized doing it that way would leave an opening between the wing and gear. That would not look right. And believe it or not my wife gave me a great idea. I am going to make the belly pan to cover from the rear of the wing to the front of the fuse. Then I can just make the gear removeable. I think this will work best and keep the look's as is.

I took some preformed gear I have for another plane and put it in place on the Pitts. Looks like the removeable pan will work out great. Now that I have that figured out I can get back to work on it.

Robert, is there any pictures of my TC pitts that i can post to maybe give you some ideas that you can adapt to suit your own needs. At the moment i have the cowl and the bottom of the fusalage (between the top of the undercarrage) off the model as i'm re-routing the lines for the smoke system ?

Hi Ken,

I have a set of Andy Sheber 1/4 scale Pitts S-2A plans (wingspan of 60"). The model was designed around a .90 two stroke/ 1.20 four stroke.

I love the Pitts...wish there was a smaller version that would take a 60-90 two stroke.

After all that fuss on the wing/gear issue I feel I need to explain a little. First off these plans are excellently drawn. There is nothing wrong with the design of the plans what so ever. I just know me, and I know with the pivoting gear it would not be long before I did something stooped and broke something. That is the only reason I am making them removable.

DGUY these plans could be reduced to a 60-90 size very easily. I bet you could even get them that way.

The firewall and top half formers are in and drying.
The plans call for 0degs thrust angles on the engine, the wing's call for 0degs incedence, and the stab has zero in print but measures out at 2degs.
Any comment's on these numbers?

Hey Robert,

You definitely want to build the Sheber Pitts S-1S with 0 degrees of incidence on both wings and 1 1/2 to 2 degrees of positive incidence on the stabilizer along with at least 1 degree of right thrust on the engine due to tork.

Both of mine flew with near perfect trim with this setup.

Nice work Robert. Either you're a fast builder, or I've overestimated the amount of time it takes to build a kit like this. Either way, nice looking plane so far.

On the incidence question, I had a bme challenger witch called for a positive incidence in the top wing I went with zero and it flew just fine. If you have a real flight simulator, there is an blue ultimate plane in the sim. that the incidence in the wing and tail that can be changed to what ever value posative or negative you would like. I did this and zero was my choice top, bottom and back.

My TCpitts has 0 for both wings, +2 for the stab and 2deg right thrust on the engine which seems to stack up with the others

Robert, while i remember, my own pitts has 5mm or 3/16" of right rudder. Something to do with the propwash was the explanation.

Thank's to everyone for their input on all the angles.
Something interesting thought I'd share. I called the manufacturer and their specs on the angles are, Engine thrust 0-0, stab incedence +2degs, fin 0, and the wing's T&B  +1.5degs. I do understand why the full scale would have + on the wing's.
Anyhow, I have built the engine mount box, the top stringers are on, and I put in the ele & rud servo mount ply. In the morning when I can install the engine mount I will post pics. I have also cut up all the laminating ply for the ele, rud, and wing tips. Can't go no further untill some epoxy dries.

Rick, do you have any detailed pictures of the cockpit and more importantly, the size from the seat to the turtle deck at the pilots head ? from what i can see, the size of a 1/3 scale pilot is 300mm/12" from the seated position to his head and if that is the case i could be in trouble !
