I have used the aluminum flasing from the Improvement store's.  It is 10"x10'x0.0092, not sure if it would be better than glass. My dilema with aluminum is I'm not quite sure how well paint will stick to it.

Aren't I a lucky dog. I was just talking with a fellow club member about the aluminum. And he has some lithoplate and is giving me two sheets. I figure I will cut the litho to the size of each panel and then laminate a 1/64 ply, except at the overlap,  to the back side. I would like for the front section to be removable so as to have access to the throttle and choke servos, the cabane fasteners, fuel and oil tank. I think this will work.
And I'm still not sure how well paint will adhere to the aluminum.

Paint will stick but needs a self etching primer on it first.
Available at the local auto parts store.

Quick question...

In order to get those laminated curves did you soak the wood beforehand in a water/ammonia solution or ????

Looks great.

Bill it was just water. The key is to use lightply. It takes the water much better than regular ply.
Thank's R.L.

Robert, i was just thinking about that panel myself the other day. On the fullsize pitts, does that panel sit flat on the airframe or is there a gap ? i know mine is finished but i'd like to add that panel and was wondering could i use some 1/64 ply to create the step and just feather it back to nothing ?

Coming on a treat BTW !

John,  in the photo below you can see there is no gap between the panels or between the panel and the fabric. On the full size the panels are riveted/screwed to a former so there would be no gap between the panel and former. The rest of the panel is over open structure behind the panels.

In the second pic on the left jurystrut there is a tubeing that shows 45° and 90° to the pilot as they fly aerobatics.
And on the air shovel I have never seen only one, it's just not visible in this pic.

Are the wing tips and rest of the tail going to be a bow like the rudder?
