I found a way , quite by accident ; to use the back pressure of a speaker as a pumping system for a smoke unit ...Take a look at this video and judge by yourself...                                                                                youtu.be/G0_NRGsAu70

Genius.

What a great idea.

I am wondering if I made up some Benedini files with a very low frequecny pulse if I could get the drivers to move the smoke a little more. Have you got that ability with the sound system you are using there to try it.???

I'd like to see that with a Benedini sound card ...

We were thinking the same thing . I could start laying in a smoke generating track that would just move the driver in a way to get a better pulsation out of the speaker.

I  think that the benedini system, couple to a good speaker; would do the job very well...
What you ear in the video is the RX-18 module mixed with the analog module I designed about a month ago ...

When I first tested this mod. yesterday, I underestimated the output pressure of the speaker and used 1/4 " pipes to feed the smoker ...It turn out that I had too much air for the smoke output of the heater element...
I went down to 5/32" pipes for the video ...

Think at all the advantages of a system operating like this:

- No more noise coming from the pumping system
- Lighter load on the battery ( connect the heater element on the power switch, wait 1 minute to let the smoke build in the chamber; then start the engine)
- No need to connect the smoke unit to the ESC.
-No need to tap into the motor terminal for proportional output ( the speaker takes care of that)
- The smoke at the exhaust matches the sound of the speaker ( the speaker is acting as a pulsed air fan)
- The smoke unit can be installed in any tank equipped with a decent sound card and a good speaker

Definately cool idea. Finding a good small bass speaker will make the the smoke be well pulsed at idle.

strmnd54, your work with the smokers has always amazed & impressed me, such fantastic ideas, designs, & final builds!

That was downright cool ....

If just sitting there with the engine idling, I would assume the main gun fire would probably produce a big puff for a second, but the one thing that might be a little odd in that situation, is the extra smoke that might be constantly generated when using the very loud machine gun fire for any extended time.

So what would it look like with just the engine idling slowly, but with the machine gun blasting away for an extended bit? Interesting ....

I would believe most people don't just sit there constantly firing the machin gun & it certainly wouldn't be a big deal, so before anyone starts bashing me with a stick, thinking I'm just trying to be a downer on a very inventive idea .... I'm not, I think it's brilliant, but that doesn't mean I still can't be wondering what it would look like .....

It's a good point that you bring in Craig. I guess I forgot to check that out in my firts video.
The ultimate configuration for that mod. would be the one that Dan ( YHR) used when He tested the Clark TK-20 with the Benedini sound card...
He had the TK-20 sound efects playing in one speaker and the engine sound of the Benedini playing in another one...
I made another short video showing the effects of the machine gun and the cannon on the exhaust . The machine gun is from the RX-18 and the cannon is from a 10 sec. recording sound card; that I use as A.T.R. youtu.be/vlzZ2gC25H4

The real problem would come when using a board like the TK-20 that allows to fire the machine gun, the cannon and other sound effects with the engine off...
But since the speaker and the smoke unit are not connected together ( there"s a 1/16" gap between the pipes); It would be fairly easy to cut "on" and"off" the air flow with a small servo....
For now the main idea seems to be working, and there will be more than one way to apply it....

Norm.

You Canadians are clever devils! How in the heck do you "accidentally" discover something like that? Hey .... accidentally find a manufacturer of affordable Centurions, Comets, Matildas, etc............

I'm impressed with that system.
