I bought an Air Thunder 3s 2200mAh battery around 5 years ago, didn't get much use but I did pull it out every once in a while to discharge and charge it. Well, year or so ago I got a plane that I could use this battery for. Worked great and then lately last several times I tried to charge it using my BC-6 (real, not clone) charger, the first cell detected voltage jumps all over the place, and it eventually errors out. Testing with a cell voltage tester the voltage is solid! Even my amp/voltage meter shows solid full voltage charge! Another Turnigy 2200mAh charges fine, so I don't think it's the charger or cable.

Any ideas? I haven't had a chance to test run it to see if it loses power quickly. Might do that and also hook the ammeter in line to see what it shows.

The battery probably has gone bad.

Sounds like the battery. I wouldn't fly it in any of my planes. Any physical changes puffing,
loose connection at the balance.plug?

The voltage checker is probably not putting a load on the pack, so you are not getting anything meaningful back.

The better charges check the state of the packs and what happens under load, so I would put more trust in your charger.

It sounds like a cell went bad.

It could be either of those things, my best guess is that your cell#1's balance wire has a bad connection where it's soldered to the cell tab. I think it HAS to pin 4 and not pin 3. Isn't pin 3 shared by two cells?

No puffing - but that was Air Thunder's claim to fame for charging what they do! Guess a new battery is in order. Thanx for the inputs guys.

I guess I could try wiggling the balance cable around just for grins.

Yea, do it during the charge or discharge.
