Ok, I hope this answer is not in some easy forum that I could have ran into, but I did search. I am breaking in a new RC, my first, but noticed that oil is under the HLN, near the motor mount bracket, and on the bottom plate. I know the exhaust spits it out, but could the engine be defective? or is this coming out of the exhaust manifold via the rubber connector? Now, this is enough residue that I need to wipe it up for it is going under the chassis. When I put it away, I don't want it pooling up. Please let me know if this is a normal thing, or if I am running too lean/rich OR if I should just return it and get another one.I appreciate any help, as I hope to enjoy my first RC experience, realizing its addictive!

You need to establish exactly where the leak is. If the fuel is coming from the exhaust or the backplate or the carburettor then you need to stop the leak, this could mean new seals/gaskets or possibly new parts. If the fuel is leaking out of the front crankshaft bearing then this is fairly normal with a new engine due to the rich mixture.
Give the engine a good clean and then run it for a few minutes until you can see where the fuel is leaking from.

It's probably oil leaking from the front bearing. If this is the case, it will be wet around the flywheel and base of carb. This is normal. You will have more oil oozing if you run a richer mixture or higher oil content fuel.

OK, so I am using 20% (I assume the standard) but should I always expect this if its rich, or does this eventually stop as I progress my experience....in other words, will this always happen while running rich anyway, no matter how broken-in the motor is?

PS: the 'oil' is definitely on the block

That oozing oil is what lubricates the bearing. Some engines ooze more than others. Expect to have some cleanup from time to time when running nitro.

Your 20% fuel refers to the nitro content. Car fuel rarely states the oil content. Average oil content is about 12%. If your fuel has more oil, it will ooze more, especially if your mixture is too rich. Less oil will ooze less but at the sacrifice of less lubrication.

In short: you should always have a little oil ooze. If it ever stops oozing, then you have other problems.
