William Robison -> Where to find what you want (9/13/2003 3:57:47 AM)

All:

This is a URL to a resource list I'm keeping in the "Scratch Building" forum.

What I want it to be is a place where all the obscure and strange parts can be found for your airplanes.

If you have a pet place for getting something that is hard to find, or a really neat item, please post it here or on the thread in Scratch.

Thanks.

Bill.

Old Sourdough -> RE: Where to find what you want (9/13/2003 10:31:08 PM)

Bill,

What a great idea! Any submissions I might post will be control line related, although some, like the first one below may have a lot of material for other disciplines. Here are a few of my favorites:

http://www.mcmaster.com

McMaster-Carr---Bulk wire for lines, see catalog pg. 1318

http://www.tomsbuildingservice.biz/index.htm

Tom's Building Service---Supplies of all types--Handles, premade lines, control system hardware, kits

http://www.lonestar-models.com

Lone Star Balsa---Balsa, other scratchbuilding materials, engines, props. Riley Wooten, the VooDoo man himself!

http://modelwings.com/default.htm

Model Wings---Foam Wing Cores for both CL and RC

http://www.anchorseal.com/

Anchor Seal---Adhesives

http://www.micromark.com/

Micro Mark---Tools

http://www.controllineplans.com/

Barry Baxter's Control Line Plan Service---CL Plans

http://www.clstunt.com/

Stuka Stunt Works---Old Time and Classic Stunt Plans, Specially tuned stunt engines, B Y&O props, Venturis, etc.

These are just a few to get you started. I have many more. I realize that I have included more information than you do on the list you've started. I did this only to make it easier for you to categorize. Hopefully, they are in a format that you can work with easily.

Have fun!

Paul

Hello folks,

I'm looking for something, a stooge for u-control combat launch. I like flying pin bladder and the old SuperTiger 35c. Lots of noise. Hard to hold on to. Everyone I try to train to launch this thing are terrified by the sound (what I call purring at 60% nitro) not to mention the prop being only inches from there fingers wrapped around the leading edge. I’ve gotten use to the bandage around my left hand thumb due to prop damage while pinching the fuel line. (There has to be a little blood in combat.) The helpers are also tired of being referred to as stooge. Has anyone known of a construction project for a combat wing launcher?

I carry a lot of Ukie supplies. Here is a partial list:
Speed Pans
Speed Props
Monoline torque units
ST.46 engines
ST .60 engines
ST .46 and .60 venturis
ST .46 NVA's
See www.4mht.com

I've been poking around on the site mentioned. Where are the props and monoline units? Haven't found the link yet.

My RC friends might be interested in the radios and LiPo packs.

I saw a stooge in Oklahoma City that was fairly simple. It was based on the same idea of using the foam saddles to hold the wing but instead of foam the flyer just had a piece of carpet clamped in one of the hobby benches. One end of the carpet was clamped where the bench came together in the middle and the other end was held on by some very heavy duty spring clamps. I guess you can vary the size of the loop in the carpet to match whatever size wing you are using.

Hey Sourdough, I didn't see the lines on page 1318

Old Sourdough -> RE: Where to find what you want (9/2/2004 5:10:29 PM)

GR RC,

It seems that, since I provided the information on McMaster-Carr, the catalog has changed. The correct page today is 1238.

Monoflyer -> RE: Where to find what you want (1/31/2005 9:22:37 AM)

Hi , does anyone know where the bulk cable is in this edition of the msc catalog?

kdheath -> RE: Where to find what you want (2/18/2005 12:37:20 AM)

http://www.stimpson.com/

Every kind of hardware, grommet, misc that you could dream of.

Old Sourdough -> RE: Where to find what you want (7/22/2005 12:27:04 AM)

As of this writing, the cable can be found on page 1246. I found it using the following process.

Do a search (find) for "Wire Rope"

Click on the link for "About Wire Rope."

Add two digits to the page you've just reached by changing the catalog page shown (1244 in the most recent case) at the top of the page. I changed the example to 1246.

Hit "Enter" on your Keyboard. The page you're seeking should come up. It is the page that has the subheading, "About Stainless Steel Wire Rope."

Scroll down to find the part number and the price for the size you need.

I use the 1 x 7 strand Type 302 Stainless in sizes .012", .015" (The page lists it at 1/64".), and .018" for my flying needs.

I hope that the above will help those of you who have trouble finding the cable at this site.
