Status: offline 		Why do people always use two ESCs on their twin engine airplanes, when it could be simpler and easier to setup just one? Is it because most people are not sure that this is possible, or is there a different reason such as efficiency or flight time?

Status: offline 		I test ran two motors on one ESC at the same time with no load and it worked, but would it be safe with a load?

Status: offline 		It works fine with brushed motors. I've made it work with brushless, but it's not worth it. ESC for each brushless motor works better for me. Seperate battery, esc and receiver for each motor is my favorite.

What about the load factor?  If one motor draws 50A at full throttle, then you would need, at least, a 100A ESC for two motors.

Status: offline 		Does the ESC adjust it's timing according to what the motor is doing, because if it does two motors could confuse the ESC. I think, depending on where you get it, one big ESC is cheaper than two smaller ones.

Status: offline 		This question has been discussed many, many times in this and other forums. Some searching might discover those earlier threads.

The bottom line is that using one ESC for two brushless motors sometimes works. More often than not it doesn't. Sometimes only one motor will start reliably, or at all. The stalled motor may draw a large amount of current and damage itself or other components.

So unless you get real lucky, two ESCs will be required.

There was once a twin motor brushless package from Kontronik called the Kontronik Twin Drive, which matched two motors with one ESC. It was expensive = $300+ for the set. I never knew anybody who owned one, but apparently it worked. It is no longer listed on the Kontronik web site.

Status: offline 		As Jeff has noted.. the start-up can be dodgy. Some years ago, I tested several pairs of small motors using Castle, Scorpion, FMA, and Motrolfly ESCs... some were better than others, but none gave consistent starting for both motors, and even if they did run, not equal RPM.
