OK Guys Im building a TopFlite Gaint P47 I already have a Gaint P40 with a DLE 55 so I wanted one the P47 to have a scale 4 blade prop

So I got a Used ZDZ 80RV J Super off this site, I put it on my motor stand and let just say while tuning it up my prop broke wich made it instantlly unbalanced and ripped the motor off my stand and it flew 30 feet in my back yard.

SO it seems Troybuilt Modles is the only one in the US that sells parts for ZDZ and they sent me  a back plate for a ZDZ80 R Im not up set with them as I did not know it was a Super or J unitill to tonight after the $200 back plate they sent me did not fit.

I was going to call them on monday to see see if they could swap it out for a Super back plate but looking it over only the mouting tabs broke off. I got some nice 1/4in allumum plate I can get for free, so I was thinking about just cuting the pate to fit around the carb and make my own mounthing tabs. As this motor is much longer than  a DLE55 I will not need any mounting legs on this set up.

What you guys think? You see any issue with this ideal?  I figure I would just get my $200 back and save it for the retracts I need.

Im not worred about the part were the side peace is broke off, Im ging to cut the tab off, its going to to seal very well.

I've done that with weed whacker engines and flown them for years.

Give it a go, it can't make it any more worse. I had done that many years ago with converted trimmer engines myself.
One thing is to check the connecting rod and crankpin. If the rod isn't held in place it could slip off. Many engines have the rod held on pretty good, but a few have a rod that could slip off. So in that case you need to fill in the gap between the new backplate up close to the rod/crankpin to prevent it from moving back.

I still have some engines like that too:

You could JB Weld the crack in the bakeplate and install it before the weld sets up. Let set for a day...take the back plate off engine & dress off any extra weld. Make a flat backplate support with the holes for the backplate bolts and a large enough hole for the carb boss to allow plate too fit.  This will stiffin up the area and give you a way to attach the engine to whatever.   Should work good.  Get you $$ back from a part you cannot use.   Capt,n

Thanks guys I know this ant a little motor but it sucks to pay $200 for a part when I only paid $320 for the motor

I feel better now,  at least the original bolt holes going in the back of the motor are all good

thanks
