Status: offline 		Has anyone tried this when setting up dual elevator servo's?

Program one servo just like you want it and hook it to the receiver. Tape a carbon fiber rod on each elevator half so they point together behing the rudder. Rotate the programmer knob so that both rods match. Set the center point. Have someone hold full up elevator on the radio and again just use the knob to match and then program. Repeat for down elevator. It works, everything matches like it should and it takes hardly any time.

I don't see why this would not work for multiple servo's on a rudder or aileron.

i was tring to program two 5945s for the elevator halves but can't seem to get the endpoints adjusted. No matter where I set the endpoints, it seems to make no difference when I run it on the receiver. I can program the center and direction but that is about it. What am I doing wrong? I saw the video by J hunt and followed his methods but seem to have no effect.


Also, when you set the center and go back to check it later, the number is not the same anymore (i.e when center was set at -7, it may read -15 later). Is this right? I am running a 24" extension and using Futaba PCM radio.

Status: offline 		Are you trying to set the centers more than 15 degrees from the factory set center? If I remeber correctly you cannot set more than 15 degrees from the factory center and still be able to set the endpoints.

I don't think so. But I will be trying it again tonight when I get back and double check the centers. Will this cause the difficulty in programming the end points?

If you have moved the centers a lot I would reset the servos. Then make sure you set your servo arms are set as close to center as possible. Now set your center and end points, when you set the end points the display on the programmer should display "L-pos" or "R-pos" when you set them, then after you have them set press the input button to save and exit the programming menu.

Also what type of radio are you using? When you say it makes no difference when you plug into the receiver are you not getting the expected throw or are they not throwing the same amount?

I did exactly as you have mentioned above but to no avail. It seemed like the endpoint programming did not affect the endpoints on the servo once it was plugged in the receiver. You may be right that the center may have exceeded the tolerances so I will try what you recommended tonight. That is reset the servo and go from scratch again.

I am using the 9z radio with a pcm rx. As for the throws, I am not getting the expected endpoints that was programmed. Increasing or decreasing the endpoints did not affect the throws. I did not adjust anything on the radio (everything is on default).

Status: offline 		I have also noticed the same thing. If I program my servo for 60 degrees of travel, then plug the servo into my Rx and use the Tx stick I do not end up with 60 degrees. Close but not quite. Real pain when ganging 2 servos together for a pull pull.

Status: offline 		From my experience a Futaba radio will not drive a Hitec digital servo to full throw where you have your endpoints set on the servo. It sounds like that is your problem, you may have to program your servo endpoints a little farther than you want to get the expected throw.

To test this plug your programmer into the receiver on the channel you are using, channel 2 for the elev. Now use the "Measure Pulse" function of the programmer to check the pulse the receiver is suppling to the servo. Move your elevator stick and make note of the numbers shown at full up, full down and center. The center should be 1500us, the left 900us, and right 2100us. Never tried this on a 9Z but on the 9C and 8U the closest you can get is approx. 965 on the left and 2035 on the right, which will never allow you to get to the endpoint you programmed on the servo. I always use the subtrim function to set the centers to 1500 on the radio.

Also if your using the ailavator function you will want to check that channel also.

It was my mistake. I forgot to clear out all the conditions and memory in that setup and was not driving the servoes fully when plugged in the rx. It works fine now.

Also, your idea of using the subtrims to setuo the center sure is helpful. Thanks.

The 9z at center is 1520us with +/- 500us at the extremes ( I'll give you the exact figure when I get back tonight).

Status: offline 		Joe first off thanks for the videos they helped a lot. now for a couple of questions.
1st. Joe how did you come up with the messurements for the throw you used on your plane in the video?
2nd. have you ever tried to leave the servos connected to the surfaces and get the setting set by slowly turning the knob on the programmer untill you had it set exactly where you wanted it before saving the settings? I have not tried it yet but seems to me you could do it that way and eliminate the guessing of course you would still have to do one servo at a time.

I hope to remake those videos during the day when I'm not so sleepy. LOL

Well... on the 3-1/2" of throw... it was based on having the 1-1/4" SWB arms moving about as far as I felt comfortable. And, that 3-1/2" turned out to be a wild ride on those big ol' ailerons on the wild hare! I'm running 100% expo. :-)

On the WYSIWYG... that is the time comsuming part that I've found about setting up servos on other than Hitec RXs. With the Futaba RX, as shown in the videos, it is not WYSI
