Good grippy tires are one of the best upgrades you can get for a crawler. To help it grip rocks, you can also cut the tire foams into a star shape.

Also, try to keep the heavier items on your truck as low as possible(ex. moving the battery(s) to the axles).

moving the battery further forward can help. Thats why most comp trucks have small lipos which can be mounted over the front axle.

some lilke to add lead weights to the front axle or even the wheels.

A stronger, metal geared servo is a good upgrade. The MG996r is a great servo at a low cost.

If I recall, the exceed 1/10 crawlers have alot of torque twist (where the torque direction of the motor twists the truck to lean in one direction) which is naturally a bad thing. Adding preload to the side in which it twists can help.

with any truck, you have to experiement with changes.

Cutting the foams which go in the tires to a star or gear shape helps the tires "form" to the rocks and grab better.

i dont know anything about that truck. is it a MOA? motor on axle two motors? thats what it shows in the pics online. if so, drop the rear pinion down 1 tooth, that will help with clod stall. thats when the rear motor gets weak on climbs and stalls until you give it to much throttle and flip it off your line. if its a MOA, you wont have torque twist.
i suggest hot bodies white dot rover tires and dont cut the foams. cut foams helped back when all we had were crappy tires. they can cause your tires to be to soft. you want the rears firmer than the front so the rear tires wont fold up as you climb, and you want all the tires stiff enough to not fold under the rim on side hilling
look in to these

this is the truck im looking at
http://www.nitrorcx.com/1scexrcmadcr.html

if the upper links are adjustable, make em a little longer or move them out towards the end of the chassis to clock the motors up out of the way some. get the chassis down lower. can you move the shock mounts closer to the axles? its got to be top heavy the way its setup in the link. i run my xr10 with around 3" belly clearance

ill try.
lower links set your wheelbase. your upper links can be different lengths to change pinion angle on a shaft driven rig, or clock the motors up or down on a moa.
from the pics on nitro rcx site, that chassis only has 2 holes that the uppers can be mounted in. the holes closest to the center of the chassis will drop the motors down more and they will get stuck on thing easier. so your only option is to get longer links for the uppers.

think of it this way. the lower links will keep the axles from moving out farther from the trucks chassis. as uppers get longer, the axles will rotate up, moving the motors up with it.

keep in mind that as the axles are clocked up, your steering will be affected. your steering goes side to side, as the axle rotates up, steering will move from horizontal to vertical.
like this. hold your hand sideways like your going to chop something, wave hand side to side, as you wave your hand, bend your arm down, your hand will start to lose side to side motion and get more vertical as your arm drops. make sense?
i dont know if anyone makes different links for the truck, could probably use something from axial or make your own. if your motors are not getting hung on stuff, i wouldnt worry about messing with the links.

as for pinion gears. they go on the motor shaft and turn other gears in the gear box. there should be a plate screwed on the gear box that comes off, inside you will see the pinion gear bolted to motor shaft. you can get the pinions with different number of teeth. most likly there going to be 48 pitch gears, there will be a small set screw on the side of the pinion, loosen it and it will slide off the motor shaft, count the number off teeth on it, example, say it has 15 teeth. get one that has 14 teeth and put it on the rear motor. that will make the rear motor just a little slower, but increase that motors torque and it will spin easier because it will see a lighter load than it did with the 15 tooth gear.

from what im seeing in pics of the truck, wheels, tires and foams, and motor gearing is about the only options you have that can be changed. theres no adjustment options on the chassis for shock and link tuning. a good set of tires/foams will help alot though
