Before the 8FG was upgraded to 14 channels, you will use 8CH mode and you can use vitual channels/mixes. Now you have 14 channels 12+2 fully proportional 2048 channels.

My understanding things like camber and butterfly are virtual mixes; driving the servos but not a true channel.

If you are in 7Ch mode you have 8 functions and virtual Mixes. In Multi 2 Mode you have the functions I have listed  for you and there are more than 14 funtions so clearly the functions are not related to the number of available channels.

Actually, Camber can be set to a specific channel and used as trailing-edge or even leading-edge flaps. It's used as a virtual channel when you use the Camber Mix. That's a preset mixer that allows one control, Camber, to move ailerons, flaps, and elevators as desired. When combined with conditions, the Camber Mix can be used to droop flaps and ailerons for takeoff, and allow full Crow (or Butterfly) function in another condition, and reflex the entire trailing edge in another condition. It's actually one of the more powerful mixes in the system, and I love it! Don't use "Flaps" or "Butterfly"...set it all up in the Camber Mix.

The thread was originally about the 12FG, but you can use the Glider functions in the 8FG to enable conditions. Then, the Camber Mix can be used however you want. You can use the Glider model type for almost any airplane, powered or not. Futaba uses the Glider model type because people want to have preset functions for different types of models, rather than have powerful, but generalized options. You can then use the Camber Mix in the conditions.

Bax,
It would be a nice touch to add the throttle function as an option in the function menu in Glider model type. This way it would make things easier for those of us who fly wet power to use the glider mode, by not having to use P-mixes to get engine kill and idle up for an IC engine.

The 12Z is a superb radio and on sale now at Tower. The plane and heli are essentially identical. Buy one of these if you don't need telemetry.

I have an 8fg and a 12fg and keeping an eye on the 14sg....but everyone dont be fooled. The 14sg is basically an 8fg programming wise and believe me the 8fg does not have proper full conditions like the 12fg where ALL perameters can be changed and is not just 5 conditions as against 8..This means if someone is buying the 14sg to replace thier trusty 12fg they are in for a programming dissapointment. Here in the uk you can get an 8fg for £220 brand new and a 14sg for £399 brand new....thats one hell of a difference for a bit of telemetry and FHSS compatability.

I think the impulse buyer who has not studdied the differences too much will effectivly be fooled by the 14sg.Its not in the same class as the 12fg...know where near in fact ,programming wise...just thought you all should be aware ,just incase you are not..FG

Futaba sucks! I have the 12FG, and it is a great transmitter. However, Futaba, being greedy, does away with it.
Now, if you want 12FG features such as conditions, it is available in high end transmitters .... for a large bundle of money! What a way to treat their loyal customers. I have been Futaba fan for ever, but would think long and hard before biting again!!

Me thinks a bit of patience is in order here. Something new will be along one day soon to fill the void.

To Futaba's credit, their models stay in the lineup longer than some of the competitive brands. In fact, some people get down on Futaba for not bringing out new models often enough. Can't please everyone I guess.

Geez man, relax. Futaba has done nothing to you and you have the transmitter you wanted. As you pointed out yourself, now if anyone wants conditions in Acro mode, they will have to spend big bucks. Lucky you.

What can I say??????? that's my opinion, and i am sticking to it. At my age, I'm entitled to be grumpy!
Maybe Futaba, and, or Tower, will feel sorry for me and give me a new, better tx for Christmas ????? the 18mza would be fine. They can even keep the receiver! I can add it to my collection of 8u, 9z, 9c, 9c super, and 12 fg. ohhh ... almost forgot ... and my JR 8103!

Wish I'd read this thread before selling my Ultra reliable 12FG and buying a very disappointing 14SG! First problem is it won't read my SD card out of my 12FG for some reason have no idea what I've done wrong as everything appeared to copy onto the card and showed on the screen as being on the card. I just can't get my head round Futaba's mindset, they surely must hear from people what they need and with todays technology why don't they deliver it. I have been a Futaba user for about 38 years and have had several transmitters, now I feel I'm being pushed into spending £2,000 on a transmitter I feel is vastly overpriced. On the other hand Spektrum has out an 18 channel QQ ltd edition tranny for £700, I could use the £1300 I've saved and buy some spektrum receivers I only need 4.

Correct, the models from your 12fg carry more data than the models from the 8fg(14sg as they use the same general software).I have both 12fg and 8fg and the models have never been interchangeable. As i said in my post on the discontinued 12fg ,the 14sg is an 8fg programming wise without "proper" conditions as your 12 had.I would never swap my 12fg for an 8fg or 14sg.The 14sg is an 8fg with telemetry and fhss compatability..thats all...oh and is nearly twice the price...£219 =8fg £399 =14sg in inwoods models.

So to summise..the only models you can take offf an sd card and put into a 14sg for it to read are models made on an 8fg,NOT a 12fg....The 14sg is an upgrade for the 8fg not the 12fg..there will probably be another model out for 12fg owners to upgrade too, they are a different class of radio altogether...hope this helps

It's help make my mind up that Futaba have shot themselves in the foot. I'm not prepared to spend £2k on a transmitter so unless I can get back a 12FG I'm going to buy JR Spektrum. As you may have gathered I'm totally p*****d off at the moment so won't get into a rant, all I can say is "Futaba you had a chance to jump ahead of everyone and instead you've jumped down a big hole".

Ok, let me get this straight. You sold a perfectly good 12FG that probably cost you something like US $1000. You bought a new radio for probably $599 thinking it would have the features of a much more expensive radio and now you are upset..... and you are blaming Futaba for your mistake. Sounds to me like someone didn't do their homework very well.

If anything, the 14SG is a 10C replacement. I don't believe I have read anywhere that Futaba is suggesting it is a replacement for the 12FG or 12Z. Clearly, another radio will be along soon to fill the performance and price point void between the 14FG and the very expensive 18 channel radio.

Can anyone really believe that Futaba will leave a price point void in their lineup from $599 for the 14SG to $3000 for the 18MZ?
