Status: offline 		I used Airtronics 94102 standard servos. No bearing and it flew for years. I have a 5 of these and they are doing a great job.

Status: offline 		My theroy on servos and the like is this...I usually go up in size in aircraft...so I buy bigger now that way I have bigger when I need it...you can't hurt anything going with a bigger than needed servo. Now a standard servo is fine but if you can swing it try a HiTec 5645 except for throttle.
This size doesn't matter bs was started by an RC wife trying to keep her hubby from buying a 40 percenter...LOL

Status: offline 		Well, if you're flying in excess of 100 MPH with huge control surfaces, maybe you need servos in the 100 oz torque range, but for the kind of flying I do, Futaba S4001 or Hitec HS425 servos work just fine in my 60 size airplanes. And with these you can use 4.8 volt receiver batteries and get by with it. In most cases, I don't see the need for a 427 cubic inch Corvette engine in a Honda 450 motorcycle frame.

Status: offline 		Not too many years ago, all we had were 45oz-in standard servos. We used them in giant scale, ie , all the Byron birds without any problem. My 50cc Pitts only had 1 on the elevator and 1 on the aileron and i never had any issues. They were Kraft KPS9 with plastic gears. I think servos are way over hyped today.

Yes and the 60 size Supersportster was designed around the standard size servos of the time. I liked the BB servos just because then were supposed to be smoother and last longer. I think I may have worn out one or two non bearing servo cases ever? Guess they are stronger then we thought. I still have a box full of standard servos and feel OK with using them in most 60 size planes. I do have a lot of better servos on hand but if they aren't needed no reason to use them.
The Supersportster is a fantastic plane and I originally used it as my building tool of choice. Then I went with the 4* 60 but if I get another student wanting to learn building I would like to go back with the Supersportster. It's a much better stunt plane then the 4*.

Status: offline 		Yup, it's a building exercise alright! I haven't done much building lately because of ARFs and its a real pleasure to get back. The only time I get to use my rusty building skills is for repair!
Thanks for the responses...I'm going to use good 'ol standard servos.
