KM,
I've been using Final Net hairspray for years...on my planes that is. I use it to seal the wood before I glass as it seems to cut down on "weight adding" epoxy absorption.
I've also used even before I Monocoat. Gives a little hardness to the wood and I think it helps with adhesion.

Just my 2 cents

paul

hair spray is clear lacquer

There is a wee bit of difference though. I use clear lacquer paint, TF, for balancing props and as an over spray for fuel proofing. Hair spray doesn't work quite as well.
I have known people that paint there frame work before covering to make the covering look smoother? It's just adding more weight to the plane. I haven't read every post in this thread but has anyone mentioned Balsarite? Banned in California but we used to smuggle it across the boarder when club members would come to Vegas. It seals the wood and tacks down the covering when heated with a covering iron. It may be good for coating the bare frame before covering with cloth?
I only used the product on repair work where there may have been some oil left behind on the wood before covering.
I sure hope kitman posts up some photos and tells us how he covered his PT with cloth. What he thinks of it? Maybe compare it to Solartex covering? Maybe a new thread or a How Too thread with photos.
