Bought a used one( first and last time). Seller claimed it ran, has bowman ring etc etc. Just spent the better part of the day fighting this thing. Won't do anything more the just pop. I believe this may be an older version, the carb says tillotson on it. I checked gap, replaced plug, cleaned screen, checked timing, played with needles and nothing.Plus the bearings are squeaking now. Who's my best bet to get thing going? And btw, this is my 4th DLE 30, rest were bought new with no issues

I didn't. When the bearings started making noise I figured I'd just send it in and have the whole thing gone through.

I have heard reed valves squeak....but not bearings.  Bearings feel rough when turing engine over slow. Let us know what went south.   Capt,n

The reed valve may be leaking and that is the problem?

You should have heard the crank bearings in my DA50 a few years back .... they squeaked and squealed while flying. There was no question there was a problem and I landed immediately. So yes, bearings can squeak if anybody asks. Actually they didn't feel all that bad when turning the crank by hand and there was no noise from them unless the engine was running.

I always though good sealing reeds sort of croak like a frog when the engine is turned over by hand.

To hear the the reeds well, you need the carb to be open.

And if even one reed is hanging open, you won't get the sound unless you turn the engine over quickly. This is a good quick test to confirm reed seal. Of course there is no substitute for a visual inspection but the sound test is good enough for a field test when an engine won't start.
