I would apreciate some help here.  Kit calls for a 280 size brushed motor with gear reduction. What does 280 stand for? Do I need a gear reduction for a brushless motor? I'm trying to save time and money to modernize the kit to brushless motor. HELP PLEASE.

A bog-standard Speed 280 is probably good for no more than 3A-4A.. maybe 40W-50W at the outside... geared it might spin an 8" prop...FIRST decide what size prop your plane will need, then choose a brushless outrunner with the right Kv to spin that size prop at ~50W...about 4A-5A on 3s, or 6A-7A on 2s.

On 2s a 19g Suppo 2204/14 (~1570Kv) spins an 8x4 GWS HD to get you 310g @ 29mph from 5.90A/44W.

On 3s an 18g Motrolfly 2203-1600v2 (~1645Kv) spins a 7x3.5 GWS HD to get you 326g @ 38mph from 5.40A/59W
