if you want to upgrade the ESC, buy a used traxxas waterproof XL-5. Ive got them for $25 shipped before on ebay.

could just get a traxxas receiver box I find them usually pretty cheap on ebay, and just ziptie it somewhere.
Like on my one RC I ziptied it to a rail on the side.

yes, and the easiest way is a baggy or ballon over the reciever. Its best to put a dab of grease where the wires come out with a zip tie holding it closed.

didnt think about the rice thing, i saved my sons cell phone awhile back with a bowl of rice

you can de case the esc and rx. then paint em with liquid electric tape.
the xl5 could be your best bet. what tune are the motors?
the only problem with home waterproofing is theres only one way to test it

Brushed electrical motors are one of the few pieces of electronics that are very resistant to water. That said, I would use one of those electric motor filters to keep dirt and debris(which can shorten the life of the motor) out.

Not sure if it would fit in with your setup, but you could get an electronics box to put them in and just seal the box.

ESC I find a tad trickier as you have to make sure the FET's still conduct heat to the heatsink, but you got a good seal around the conductive parts that can short.

as for the radio like I said easiest way I know to be 100% sure it ain't gonna get wet is a cheap traxxas radio box like the one on the stampede 4X4 as it has the screw holes to mount it on the outside(the slash 4X4's box has holes in the box itself and would let water in) which could use zipties to hold it to a chassis rail.

Ive done the ESC waterproofing on my 6wd WK with the traxxas RX box ziptied to it last year for winter running, and after the run I just hose the RC off to get the salt from the street, and snow off. The RC's worked perfectly fine.

My SCX10 also uses a traxxas waterproof box (mounted where the stock radio box goes with a few mods) with a XL-5 ESC that I had laying around.
