I have 2 son's, 11 and 13, and my brother recently bought them (and me) 3 helicopters and had them sent from Amazon.com. They were Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopters - Blue, ASIN: B003TVTPS0.

One of them worked great, both the controller and the helicopter. On another the controller wouldn't work so we took the one from the 3rd box and got the helicopter flying but then it was dropping to the ground suddenly.

I returned 2 of them, and am wondering if I should return the 3rd, and Amazon is sending me a gift card. I would like to get the boys (am me, the big boy) helicopters and was hoping that some of you experts out there could recommend what I should be buying. We're all beginners and I would prefer buying from Amazon.

Let me know your thoughts.

Hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Mike

Hey Mike Merry Christmas!

those helis are pretty easy to manuver, 3 ch up/down, R/L forward/reverse, they are IR infra red and flying them outside in the sun or inside with lots of lights or remote controls doesnt work. the settings of the transmitter A, B or C will bind with the heli on any channel. at one point i had 7 syma 107 helis 2 red, 2 yellow, 2 blue and 1 chinook style. we were able to fly 3 t the same time each transmitter on a different letter.
they only fly for about 3 - 5 minutes with a full charge. i purchased a USB charger for my computer to save on transmitter batteries.
depending on what you want to do there are several other types of helis in that level as a beginner,
one step up is a 4 ch  (the other three directions plus R/L lsteral movements), might look to the WL V911 there is a sale going on now for the newest version the H911 $34 i think at http://www.xheli.com/28h-h911-irocket.html
others are the GW 9958 which is a 4 ch as well
moving up to the hobby level would be something like the Align 100 which runs about $125
Nine Eagles is another company that makes helis their solo pro 260 is a good one as well...
one other option which is a pretty fast moving trend are the quads WL V929, the Syma X1 both are fun to fly and run less than $50 are 4 ch and can do flips
the Blade version (or hobby grade) without a transmitter radio runs about $150
i personally stay away from walkera products and after i decided to make it a hobby i got a good radio to fly many of my helis and planes, even run my RC tanks as well....
one good place to look for the inexpensive non-hobby grade stuff is http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Rc-Helicopter-c-264.html
hope tyhis helps!

The blade (http://www.bladehelis.com/) line up of heli's are a pretty decent quality, not very expensive and most importantly you can buy parts for them. You can find many RTF (Ready To Fly) in the $100 to $200 range that come with a transmitter. If you're buying anything less than $50-75 it's pretty much toy grade and disposable.

Now as to which one to buy I'm not really sure, perhaps the Blade mCX2 RTF at only $120 might be a good start.

Good luck, happy flying and Merry Christmas.

Yes I would return all of them and buy a spy hawk as it has a built in camera and easy to fly and control.
